I'm sure it'll see a revival eventually, just like the Majesty series. Kohan has a similarly charming style and an even better developed lore universe with some really unique and quality games carrying its name. That's a pretty solid groundwork for any future attempts at expanding the franchise.
It's just waiting to be rediscovered.
Other hand this game could be turn into an mmo because I can imagine how this could work with an improved character progression and skill trees. Also add the option to build garrisons and make patrol or pillage enemy's base with a mass number of companies. Every people can join or make own companies and join to each faction or make an own faction (ofc when the player have enough capacity and place/rescources). Can choose which faction and where want to begin and with an improved character creator. Quests and other stuff of course can come with time in addition more character oriented missions or wants which can be fullify by others. So I can imagine this and a Kohan3 but the chances for these games now really small because actual not the main role the rts. Moba games rule now the market and also blizzard have a starcraft2 but that not need to mean a fantasy rts wouldn't be successful. Sadly I can't code or design high levels and no have any team which can make things like a Kohan 3 so we can just hope and wait till someone think it's a worth choice to make a Kohan game.
Well, I think I've a good eye for nice games, and this has a truly great potential, I just hope an big company make a deserving sequel from it, with standard tecnology, improving currently features and adressing more deep into.
It was a "reboot" pretending to be a sequel and it destroyed everything that was good about the original.
The same mechanics can be used to make functionally different experiences. Majesty 1 was a Fantasy Kingdom Sim, in it you built your economy and recruited autonomous heroes who went off on their own little adventures and did all sorts of things around town.
Majesty 2 was a dumbed down wave based RTS with indirect unit control, the heroes were not sims, they did not do much of anything on their own besides walk in circles, and the enemy AI just rushed straight towards your keep like some tower defense game auto attacking anything in it's path.
It's a really bad example to use because Majesty 2 is not a faithful spiritual sequal, it doesn't continue the tradition of the original, it's an entirely different game.
If we get a Kohan III, hopefully it will be everything we love about Kohan II and more. That's what a sequel should be.
It is not, due to ppl also feeling the same way about Kohan II compared to Kohan I. I personaly loved Majesty II, but that is also besides the point. What I tried to say, without starting a discussion, about personal prefrence regarding a driffrent game.. WAS, Majesty was a unique game, with weird and experimental mechanics and a combination of diffrent game genres with a sequal yeeeeeears after the first game released.
If you want to fight about your own feelings about video games, find someone else. If you have issues with Majesty 2, find someone esle. If you for some reason dont understand what I ment or where I was coming from with my initial statemenet then you can ♥♥♥♥ off.
Yeah but we're talking about a sequel to Kohan 2. Unless you want Kohan 3 to be a first person shooter or a Warcraft 3 clone it's not a good comparison. Besides Kohan 2 would have done better if the developers hadn't alienated core fans of the original, and further, it's much more similar to Kohan than Majesty 2 is to Majesty despite the loss of things like strategic City Founding (without the settlement spots) and Diplomacy, the core essense of the game was still carried over they didn't just randomly change the genre.
But it should have never been called Majesty 2. Love it or hate it that 2 on the end makes a promise that it failed to deliver, it's not a sim it's a wave based RTS with indirect unit control.
It still is, there isn't a single other game like it, not Majesty 2 or any other game, Majesty is the only game of it's kind.
With a better coding knowledge it is possible to change is because the kohan2 is very moddable in some way and the code is probably variable enough to make new functions or deepening others.
The only bad thing there is unknown yet who owns the licences and seems the modding community not really want to touch the game without any permission. I am trying to make something but at moment doing alone everything and there is need more knowledge to be sure what doing. Otherwise this game would be more enjoyable with a better AI with diplomacy options and with fixed netcode and a little bit better graphic which mostly mean slighty more polygons and better textrues. Other hings like new skills, heroes, units etc are probably the easiest things to add but time consumer and at least needs 10-15 people who can work on the game constantly.
For a sequel need a good writer or asking the first two story writer to deepening this lovely universe because there is alot potential and the strategy genre needs to be decent again.
