What is Balsa Model Flight Simulator?
Balsa is a detailed Model Flight Simulator with a powerful editor where you can design, build, fly and battle with model aircraft. Developed by the creator of Kerbal Space Program, Balsa is a virtual flight experience like no other.

Where can I play Balsa?
The game has not been released yet but you will be able to pick it up on PC! For now, why not give us a wishlist!

When is the game releasing, can you give us a window?
Currently our release window is Summer 2020, which admittedly is a pretty wide target, but there is no fixed date yet. We expect this window will narrow down as we approach it, so stay tuned for more information.

Do I need to know how to build model planes in real life to play this game?
Definitely not. Balsa was designed to let you experiment, invent, and learn by trial-and-error. Vehicles are built using an intuitive drag-and-drop workflow, where parts attach to one another. No prior knowledge necessary, and most definitely, no glue.

Does the game use real model plane parts?
Not at the moment. We currently have an array of model parts that let you build a lot of different designs, and we have plans to add many, many more as the game progresses through Early Access. These could include real life parts as well eventually (it would be certainly very cool), but no promises on that just yet.

Is the game coming to consoles in the future?
At the moment, we are entirely focused on developing it for the PC, so it’s not in our near-future plans, but never say never.

How often can we expect developer updates from you?
As mentioned earlier we are a 2 person team, so we will be doing updates on development when we feel like we have a good amount of information to share. We will also be continuing to pop our heads in the Discord/Steam/Reddit forums from time to time to answer any general questions. We believe in having an open and honest relationship with our community so please be patient for news and expect some gaps in updates. We promise when we do share info it will totally be worth it :)

You previously were the lead developer on Kerbal Space Programme, is this tied to the KSP in any way?
Only in lessons learned. Balsa is an entirely new project, being developed by Floating Origin Interactive, which I started after I left KSP. It is completely its own game, and has no connections to KSP or KSP2 in any way.

Is the game still coming to VR?
Yes. As we developed for 2D, our VR support became out of date and platform changes also ended up making it obsolete, so we are due for a big VR revision soon. Hopefully it won’t be long after we hit Early Access that we’ll get to revisit VR again.

Do you have a public roadmap?
We don’t have one available during the beta, but we intend to have an Early Access roadmap available upon Balsa’s release into early access. It’ll cover the big items that you can expect to see through Balsa’s early access period.

Why is the Demo no longer available?

The demo was only available during the Steam Summer Festival for one week.

Can I request features?
You can - the best place to do this would be on our Steam Forums we have a dedicated thread where you can throw any of your feature requests at us. We check this as often as we can :)

Where can I report any bugs I find in-game?
You can report bugs on our bug reporting sub-forum on Steam, please try to give us as much information on the issue you’re having as possible. If you have any screenshots or videos to go alongside this that will help us greatly.
