Game Crashes After Switching Drives
Hi,
My ssd was becoming full on space so i deciding to put two games (dead by daylight and rocket league) on my hdd. I did this by properties - local files -move install folder. After moving the games i have had constant crashes (every single time i load the games 2/10 mins in the game freezes for a few seconds then crashes). Im not sure to do. Hopefully someone knows a solution because a have contacted much support and no responce.
Thanks !

A. Try running the file check in Steam (Right click, properties, local files, verify integrity)
B. Run a chkdsk on the HDD, and use a disk checking tool and check the disk health

when i verify game files and then go press play the game, it sometimes says : to do with binning stuff on the c drive and saving on the e drive. maybe that has something to do with it ?

No, I moved things around all the time, from the RAID0 SSD's to the 4TB drive when I don't play them anymore.

You'll need to check the HDD for errors.

Well, welcome to PC gaming. Getting it working is half the fun.

Go back to console.
I've been doing this for like 30 years. It's not nearly as difficult as it used to be.

There's a problem somewhere, and it's fixable. It just depends on how much you plan on troubleshooting it. Just Google search the error message.
Could be the disk.
Could be the AV program?

You cannot just "move game folders" from one place to another and expect ANY program to function correctly.

REINSTALL the game but this time tell steam where you WANT it, you can manage that from your steam Settings tab.

You can within steam. It's under properties.
You can actually just move the game to a new folder and add the folder to your steam Library, Steam will update itself.

It has to know where to look though, and until you tell it 'also I have a steam directory on drive x/y/z' it'll default to the original location.

As long as the game is in a Steam folder, it will work fine. I do it all the time.

Works either way, as long as the destination is in the new location and you restart Steam.

Yes you can. Steam has an option to move them, as the OP detailed. If you run the game after such a move, it will do the first time install, fixing all the references, aka reinstalling the game(s).
