Playing music via Steam Overlay.
Whenever I try to play music through the steam overlay I either get a CTD or a freeze that I can only get out of via CTRL+ALT+DELETE and sign out. Is there a cache or something i can delete? I remember it happened after something I did, but i can't replicate it now, and therefore I cannot fix it :-S

What normally happens is that my external HDD needs time to spin up, and so it stalls for a while. Usually I fix that by pre-opening the drive before I go into CS:GO. Now I can't circumvent a total crash at all though.

Post a report to Steam Support.

The devs are aware of the problem but don't know the source.

Anymore info may help.

Can't remember exactly, so I can't really help in that regard. I just know it was in connection with me having to log out of windows entirely. But what I did just before that I don't know :-/
yep

so many have sent them the reports
KEEP SENDING EM

they are aware of the issue, but cannot pinpoint it.

It usually .OGG FILES that crash it, yet 90% of the time

in my support case they said they'll try to patch it thru updates, eventually fixing it.

Just use AIMP or Winamp in the background, and be done with it.

For other games, like Far Cry 4 to 6, Skyrim or Fallout 3/4 you can even make an ingame radio station. I prefer the mod aproach, because it is a little bit more immersive.

I can't. Whenever I minimize CSGO my audio fidelity changes, plus i have to alt tab out and into the game again several times for the brightness to go back to normal. When a new round starts I turn off the music and play the round; die, and then turn the music back on and read ♥♥♥♥ on the internet ^_^ having extra stuff running in the background would be incredibly annoying.

I replicated this crash, and found the problem.

It's a file type issue. Converting the files to another format such as MP3 "fixes" this issue. No idea why it suddenly no longer supports those file types.

.OGG files also cause a crash here. Apparently, this is a recent "bug."

I do not use .OGG files. Still crashes it.

Then the user has to convert them into differently encoded MP3 files by making use of file conversion software or an audio file editor. To fix this, users have to change the music files manually, change how they are encoded, and change them into a format that the Steam Music Player supports.

Alternatively, users can wait until the developers fix this.

Okay i have some progress. I was able to play all music tonight. I did not change anything but clear the music library and register it again. Until i hit one song. That song I was not able to find afterwards in the library on the harddisk. For me it was a song with an artist called slevin and giles. I searched for it some time now and cant find it. But when i chose that song, ♥♥♥♥ crashed.
