the hate for creating accounts in games is unjustified
its wild that pc players are still stuck in 1990s/2000s, the whole reason for creating accounts in games now is for crossplay and cross progression; this is one of the best things to happen in gaming. now people that can afford to play games on more than one platform can play and resume their progress anywhere else and play with anyone on any platform. so yall should stop the hate and just make the account, its quick and costs nothing.

I hate launchers and I hate to create accounts.
There is crossplay in Palworld, the game is in Early Access and you don't even need an extra account.

Not really. The REAL reason for third party accounts is to drive players to the game service ecosystem, where the developer has full control over the monetisation and user metadata. crossplay and cross-progression is basically a convenient scapegoat.

Which is a totally valid reason business-wise, regardless of people liking it or not.

It's at its core what Steam started doing with Valve games. at the early days of Steam.

Wow, the companies are outsourcing everything to AI these days, even shills are now AI bots.

That being said, I **** hate launchers, and I despise valve for allowing third-party launchers on steam. Especially those data-mining "cross-plattform" launchers with ridiculously customer-hostile EULAs.

Shows how little you know.
Steam is the third party.
The dev/pub of the game is ALWAYS the first party.
Some games are sold directly from the devs website first and then later added to other storefronts.
So thus you need an account with the devs site to hook into their servers.

That was NEVER a thing for me (and I doubt games actually offered that at all back then).

Making an account in an MMO was just an obvious requirement, so you could stop playing and continue where you left later. This is like savefiles, except that MMOs can't keep savefiles on YOUR box since people would just edit their savefiles to whatever state they wanted.

Also, while I'm out of the multiplayer realm, I believe not every game uses separate accounts; some are likely just using your Steam account.

I already hate you as well, there's no need to reaffirm it.

im not a shill for benefiting from playing games on console with the progress i made from pc and vice-versa at the cost of NOTHING because its free; & nobody’s talking about AI, you’re just whining for the sake of whining.

Personally I prefer maintaining as few launchers or services as possible. Only a few places with payment credentials, less places that can get inevitably breached, and less crap data mining my habits.

Some users really need to wake up and pay attention to the actual costs associated with "free accounts" and why things are set up that way. One cannot escape having a digital footprint, but they can at least minimize how easy it is to connect the dots.

Basic Internet safety would be to use different login usernames and passwords for each account you have to make.

And yes, I do find it annoying to have to do that.

Last time I checked you weren't being forced to creating an account. You simply don't have to play games that ask you to do so. You don't have to be on any game store, either. Don't want to sign into Steam for example? Don't install it.

The burden of deciding is on the player.

You can always make your own store, and then do as you please.

This is far from the first place I've had to make an account for. Emails, accounts to other sites, etc.

All that said, it is funny that the internet was given away for free and now people are making millions and billions off it. That's humanity for you.
