Steam Name Misuse Problem
Should Steam do something about people who misuse the naming feature in such a way that their name is actually not a name. There is so much misuse of the naming feature, people are using numbers instead of words, insults and even full on sentences. Does anyone else think this should be addressed?

If a profile name is insulting, report the profile. Otherwise, it's not misuse.

Have you not made a thread recently which should have been enough for that nonsense of you?

Mandatory profile setup and name misuse should be 2 discussions.

I see the 3 amigos have arrived to do what they did last time. Im trying to start a discussion on the topic. Its also incorrect for people to do so (improper use of naming) but I know the 3 amigos will disagree, they must see some benefit to it all. It would be nice if we could hear from others who may agree and disagree.

Idk why having numbers on your name could be identified as dodgy. Most steam employees impersonator I have seen throughout the years are using legit names like James Wood or Catherine Watson btw, they aren't any less dodgy than lightningmcqueen or redz479.

And yet they aren't. As is made patently clear from the previous topic. You also never satisfactorily explained why you're allowed numbers in your name but other people aren't.

The OP's real name field doesn't have any letters in it, but it does have seven mathematical bold fraktur unicode codepoints.

My perspective on that is that if we are asked to set a name and we set numbers are we not dodging using an actual name. Why not just make something up.

Some names are reasonable like the ones you mentioned but some people are incredibly unreasonable with naming to the extent that they have used a sentence which is ridiculous in my opinion.

Well, coincidentally we have a prime example in post #2. How's 'Abigail From Sexy Salmon Dept.' unreasonable?

'I love my mom' is a valid nickname, too. funny even. As ReBoot said, we can always report people if their name is offensive. otherwise, your minor inconvenience is just that - a minor inconvenience. Let Miss ‘Sexy Salmon Dept.’ thrive. :grenny:

Are you saying using a sentence as a NAME is reasonable.

Does that include your name with 3 and 1 in place of actual letters?

Sure, why not? It's just an internet forum name. What's the big deal?

edit: and did you notice? This is another CoH3 player. What is it about that game?

If somebody put "smoking is bad for you" as their Steam name, would that qualify as abuse in your opinion OP?

probably tbh, someone would find a problem with it, and under such rules, Steam may be obligated to remove it for the simple fact someone felt the need to report it (because pretty sure it's not acted on until it is reported and brought to Steams attention in the first place)

Though I understand too, some peoples' names are just.... but under current rules, I am sure they get taken care of

You are aware your own username currently contains numbers, correct?
