It's 2025 and Steam still can't handle increased traffic when sales start
Makes you wonder where all those millions go if they can't pay engineers to build system that can scale with traffic.

Why browse the steam store directly at the start of a sale?
It is not so that you would miss any offers by looking later.

There was an article in PC Magazine that stated something along the lines that this company still has like only 10 employees. Maybe less. They put like zero dollars back into the business.

That is simply demonstrably false with a 10 second web search.
I will try again later tonight. To be honest, busy servers should be expected whenever a big sale happens and its not just Steam that has this problem with slow servers when there is high traffic. Also the sale lasts until July 10th. It seems that patience is a rarity these days.
No company is typically going to buy a bunch of servers and load balances for a twice a year event that only has issues in the first 10 minutes.

Other companies during major product launches have the same problem. They as well, don't buy servers for a few things a year or one thing a year.

First few minutes is typically chaotic, after that it tends to be fine.

1 hour in and I still can't buy the game in my cart.

FTR - you are the only human that measures 58 minutes (at the time of your post) as "a few minutes" Stop defending poor business practices.

It's not worth buying a new server farm which will only be used a few times a year. Nobody trying to buy games in the first hour of a major sale, myself included, is going to stop using Steam because of poor traffic handling.

336 employees, so they can reap all the rewards of a small business for tax purposes, without being able to scale up.
