On the majority of my games, the patching takes much longer than downloading, sometimes downloading only costs 1/5 of total update time. Knowing the patches size can estimate time and lagginess when updating while playing another game.

Did you revert to the old UI? on new UI it only shows something like 1.2GB / 1.2GB downloaded

Patching depends on the engine being used for said game. Some require them game to be uncompressed, patched and decompressed, some require being layered out, and things patched then sewn back together etc.

Generally should take long for any game though as long as not in a HDD still. And the wear would be insignificant on any SSD.

No. I just pushed a few updates I had set to manual and watched them and can see it just shows download size. So I guess you're right. But I swore I sat here and watched a bunch of other updates today and saw patch sizes on the green bar.

That was a common complaint when the new Downloads screen was pushed out. But I swore I saw them come back at some point.

I'll have to watch them more closely.
