Every time a person crafts a badge for a game it creates a booster that gets raffled between all the people eligible to receive a booster. You essentially start with 5 tickets and for every 10 steam levels you get 1 more ticket.
Meaning if your standard chance to get a booster drop ist about 0.5% then with the 80% bonus its now 0.85% or so.
Also the more eligiable games you have (games where you got all the card drops already) the better.
With nearly 3000 eligiable games and level 321 i get about 1 booster pack every 2-3 weeks.
It was a lot more in the past, usually one booster every 2-3 days but it has gone down a LOT over the last few years. Seen a few discussions WHY but who knows what Steam is tinkering in the background.
edit: looked and found, no way to see a percentage for a persons drop rate.
im higher level and i barely get card drops, they take a ridiculously long time to even drop.
pretty sure i have only had like maybe 10 or so (likely less, as its been quite a long time), since being on steam and i play games constantly, at other points in time, it was almost 24/7.
have a nice day
In the FAQ at the top of the badges page. It shows that at what level the percentage rate. Im at level 41 it is 80% increase in drop rate.
Picture a drop rate that is 0,000001% now do an 80% increase, that's what it means.
As said, an 80% increase to a very small drop chance still will result in a very small drop chance.
You too, btw. :)
