Microsoft just killed Perfect Dark reboot

IP's like banjo kazooie and perfect dark are totally dead and buried because this corpo is absolutely incompetent and dont know what to do with the franchise, no surprise that Xbox is the weakest of all platforms, literally Nintendo, Sony and PC are laughing at xbox.

We already got Yooka-Laylee by former Rare devs that made Banjo-Kazooie and considered it the spiritual successor.

And Perfect Dark was already in production hell.

I'd just like to see gameplay from a single level from Perfect Dark reboot. As it'd probably explain it all.

So, a business being a business. Water is wet, sky is blue, etc.

While reboots/rrmakes can be dun, with older ip's it can be difficult to keep the same "feel".
To me sometimes it's better to start something new instead if rehashing old ip's.

Yeah... it was meant to be, who tf was going to buy it - extremely generic - copy cat of other systems in better games - and a jawline that would make some men jealous.

They did themselves a favor by cancelling it.

The title was in development hell for however long now. Is it of any surprise that Microsoft is going to axe the development of the game?

As the old saying goes, “Members may come and members may go but the company can go on forever.”

This is currently every major publisher it seems. This is what happens when the market crashes. The pandemic only delayed it for a couple years. It's not weak to kill off a project before it fails, before it ends up costing more then it should. I bet Sony wishes they had that foresight when it came to Concorde. It seems the name of the game now is consolidation.

Personally I am more then a tad bit disappointed. I really wanted this spiritual successor, and for it to be true to the original. With all of the fun gadgets and guns the developer was known for. To be blunt this was the first shooter in a long time that had me interested in shooters. I really don't care for the military shooter genre. It seems Call of Duty wins yet again though.

A business running as a business is a sign a market crashes? Things that are normal in the industry (projects getting canceller, devs shut down or moved, etc exist as long as gaming exists), arr a sign of a market crashing?

Thr hyperbole is real.

The downplaying is real. What's going on right now. Is more then a little tweaking. The industry is contracting rather then expanding, and yeah it is severe enough to be called a crash. That does not mean the industry is ending. It means the bubble has burst, and folks are taking a bath. This is Microsoft limiting its exposure, and getting out ahead of it.

I believe Perfect Dark's charm is mostly tied to its timing and platform (the N64). It had a quite few things that felt 'new' (mostly from the Bond game that it was effectively a sequel of, tech-wise). But now we effectively take a lot of those things for granted, so a sequel would have to bank on something else to stand out (and not go the way of some other old franchises that didn't quite reboot well). That said, there have been other old franchises that didn't quite reboot well.

Also, there has been quite a bit of job loss going on lately... from around all the industries I know people from, to think of it...

"Reboot".

Would have been DOA anyway.
