For example.... "Steam girl" has become quite popular but as much as I love the whole thing myself, it's also fair to argue that the media itself was a bit of a cash grab of its own, with the main difference that it wasn't about immediate currency but Steam points.
Each to their own of course, but to me the sales have always been about the games; anything extra was usually nothing more but icing on the cake.
I can imagine it's simply not worth the effort considering all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ & moaning every time about those events. I doubt they'll need the events to get more store engagement, so they likely outlived their purpose.
You roll back the clock half a decade, and the electronic entertainment expo. Was still very much on your mind. Coming into the Steam summer sale. You were already excited. You had so much to talk about, and you were here to feast. Fast forward to today, and the fun has died. It's always bad news, and real low energy.
A couple dollars worth of digital cards, and a server murdering flash game. Can't erase that sense of malaise. Today we don't even watch the shows. We listen to someone else who watched, and
get bullet points about power points. The industry sanitized away the excitement, and completely killed off our collective buzz. So much so we can't even get a contact high.
From a fellow player having a fantastic sale. So many of us are coming in miserable, because our escape isn't an escape anymore. We are now so inundated by people with agendas, and by folks in suits who do vulgar things right in public. Like talking about monetization when all we want to hear about is improvements to the weapons system.
You have to be excited about the future of gaming. While you pick your way through the bargain bin, and nobody is excited any more, and that kind of thing is really contagious. Unless you came in really stoked about filling up. You're liable to succumb to the overarching sense of apathy. The cards and flash games couldn't have overcome that.
Incorrect.
And to be honnest, yeah i prefer to go back in time and be part of something and enjoy games. The reason this system was build, was about to spend your time to enjoy games.
