Whyever steam no longer does event badges
Every sale up until the grand prix in 2019 used to have some cool badges and memorabilia, why is all of that gone now? we only get paid trading card badges with no quests and some points shop seasonal slop, just why?

Because people abused the events like crazy. They're not worth the effort and added server demands that made the buying experience worse.

Likely because it's not worth the effort anymore or it simply doesn't do enough anymore what it's supposed to do: drive engagement in the store.
