Am confused
Started my train journey with Microsoft train Simulator.For some reason after I PURCHASED AN UPGRADE I WAS POINTED IN THE STeam direction. Now I get messages from Train Sim World
Are they rthe same programme? With different names. Or has MST been superceded and no longer updated.?Should have said maybe MST 20 years ago!

Microsoft Train Simulator is an old game that has long been discontinued and I don't think has ever appeared on Steam. There is Train Simulator (classic) and Train Sim World (5 games in total) both from Dovetail games. It sounds like you own the latter or some form of upgrade associated with that game.
