Corrupt downloads
Running Windows 7. All downloads and updates say they're corrupt. Tried clearing cache, didn't work.

Doesn't matter. It's preventing me from launching anything because the steamworks redistributables are failing to update.

Okay, clearing the cache this time fixed the issue with the redistributable. But not other downloads. It gets to 99% and then says corrupt.

You need Windows 10 / 11 or newer

Steam does not support Windows 7 anymore.

I'll probably keep it in offline mode from now on.

doesnt matter, but thanks for letting everyone know, whats been known for years.

this also isnt about support, its about steam/valves new compression algorithm, so anything beyond that is irrelevant.

have a nice day

Hasn't been "years". It also does matter. As we can see here with download issues appearing on Win7 machines.

Just a coincidence this issue is happening on Win7 machines and not Win10 machines?

That's what I figured when it failed 90 - 99% in. Either some sort of header format for how downloads are chunked has changed, or the way checksums are put in that format. So you get a mismatch or it can't parse it correctly. Might just check a version number and not even attempt to apply it.

It is very likely relate. However it's notable that clearing the cache and restarting worked for the steamworks redistributables, but not a game. I also downloaded SOMA a week or two ago, and it worked. So it only applies to certain games.

You can try to download the game throught steamcmd. (Check recent steam discussions. More people have this problem.)

I have that problem with certain games. But only recently updated games. So games updated this year (after my OS stopped being supported). All older games work fine. I assumed it was because of missing filepaths since the games no longer built for older OS and steam does not know where to put the files.

That it's only recently patched / released games implies they expanded their delivery format spec. It may check a version number and fail if it doesn't match, or it can't handle it. Old games without recent patrches are fine because they're still stored in the older format.

Although I just updated Oxygen Not Included the other day. It went through fine. Maybe some devs haven't updated whatever tool is used.
