How to quit my game buying addiction?
I'm an old man who already has more great games in my library than I could possibly play before I go full-on senile. And yet, I keep buying a few more every month that I know I won't get to much, just because they look cool or are 80% off.

How do I stop and focus on one game at a time? I mean, because of my moth mind, I've still barely scratched monster games like BG3, Hogwarts, or Cyberpunk 2077, because I get distracted by cute trivial games like Date Everything! or Fields of Mistria.

Help me, Obi-Wan!

You should seek such help else where. A gaming community is not best suited to offer such advice.
Have you tried running out of money before the sales begin?

LoL! That might be it. Except for the part that I really dislike being out of money. And it's more a time-management problem than a budget problem.
I hear the UK is passing laws about FOMO in games(exclusive items, etc)... so that you don't have to rush to buy something that won't be available later.
Ummmm.....how many games do you actually have? Because I'm willing to bet it's less than what I have... lol.

This is the magic question all gamers ask themselves.

"At what point do I stop buying games and start playing my backlog?"

The answer is now.

I just looked at your card. It would be like me size-comparing with a porn star. I've got just over 1k Steam games, a few hundred more each on GOG and Epic. So not shrimp-sized, but...You Win!
I would suggest creating a Category in your library called "Already Played" or something. That way when you do go full senile, you at least know what you've played and what you haven't, otherwise you'll sit there all day looking for something to play and not notice it's now time for bed. :spazwinky:

Beautifully Zen, and it landed with me. Thank you.
The way I have done it, it not to update my computer, games look great, but you second guess yourself if you are unsure you can actually be able to play them.

That would require a 2nd computer, just for games. I have to go online, and I make financial transactions. So not keeping my rig updated is not a viable option. A secondary game-only computer might be, but it does not sound like an elegant option.

It doesn't make me feel better, it makes me sad for him. with almost 40K Steam games owned, and 25K wishlisted, that's not a pretty picture of a life.

edit: but maybe it's like Ultimate Hot Dog eating championships, and I should not judge what I do not understand.

Good point, but my health care now only pays for crisis intervention mental health. I'm not sure "too many games" qualifies.
A few things you can do. First in Steam settings. Under Notifications turn off everything to do with being notified about new games and sales. In Interface, set your Start Up Location to anything that isn't the store or news. Then, remove any payment methods you have saved. If you find you're still inputting your payment method when you're tempted to buy something, consider cancelling that method. Do not buy Steam wallet codes, either.

After that, it's learning to play only one game at a time. Start by only having one installed.
