thank you for the update.
At this point I'm unsure if Valve has removed the games because of Collective Shout directly or if (more likely) several of the processors gave Valve an ultimatum. If the latter is the case I really want to know specifically which ones.
Are people really buying this collective shout business? Trick question, of course they do. Its culture war ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ after all.
This is the exact sort of thing I would come up with if I was doing PR for Mastercard and didn't want a gamer losing their mind and shooting 'a high net worth individual'. i.e., a lightning rod to steer negative opinion away from Steam and the payment processors (who have been doing this sort of deplatforming things for religious/moral reasons for decades without any need for 'lobby groups' before now - just ask LGBT platforms and weed stores.
They should have removed PayPal from the payment system to teach them a lesson.
Steam is making hundreds of millions and PayPal is eating a big chunk out of it
Keep in mind that PayPal not working on Steam is only affecting some regions. This could be that only those divisions of PayPal contacted Valve or it could simply be a coincidence. Unless Valve or those divisions of PayPal speak out publicly, we can only guess.
weed is at the federal level still a schedule 1 drug, the same as cocaine, unless something changed, states however stopped listening to the feds about this though and legalize it in state.
if I had it my way, payment processors would be required to facilitate the transaction of money for any legal business, weed stores would likely not be supported.
