Why not just purchase funds instead?
So with the recent visa and MasterCard moderation, I've heard that there's been games being taken off here because of that or is it that we are just not allowed to purchase the games? My stupid brain thought is why not just purchase steam funds then buy the games we want and they don't get a say in it? Am I missing facts or is this not a simple solution?

Because Visa and Mastercard refuse to do business with Valve as long as those games are on Steam. That includes purchases of ALL games, dlc, software, etc and wallet funds.

It's not that simple, visa/mastercard refuse to work with company's that sell those sort of game. So its either remove those games or loose payment providers.
There is no point in selling games if no one has a way to buy them...

What do you use to purchase those Steam funds though? Visa, Mastercard, Paypal. You need to go through one of those to top up those Steam funds.

i think that would work. i also don't think they're able to track every title on every storefront. and lets also recall most of the titles removed did not have any NSFW content at all. barely even basic violence.

collective shout , i think, has stepped astray of a fair few laws, so, some legal review will need to be done. I think they're about to get the biggest self own since karl jobst v billy mitchell. very exciting to watch them try to navigate out of the legal web they've just stepped into. 👍

You're missing the point that Visa/MC don't want the association with a site that sells games with that kind of content. That's the issue.

Can someone tell me why they're so against it when it's quite literally a huge profit if they allow sites to sell NSFW games or content? Globally it's sought after and bought on the daily, wouldn't they be risking to lose some money if they keep pushing against NSFW purchases?

steam cards

Indeed.

Just go to whatever store you have where you live that has Steam Gift Cards. CVS, Walmart, Walgreens etc (not the digital version from here)

Most likely just spite. Corporate executives enjoy ruining our day. That's all there is to it.

The solution is easy but cumbersome. Stop using the banks behind the credit cards and stop using credit cards at all. You are the customer. Make your voice heard with your wallet.

Not sure how many people CAN circumvent them. To be honest, I don't even know which ways exist to pay for games on Steam other than debit and credit cards. I've heard of fund cards being sold in shops, but if that doesn't apply to shops on my end of the woods. I'm as unhappy with the decision to pressure online retailers about this nonsense as the next person, but for me, literally no other way exists.

that's not a viable solution, nearly every bank issue either visa or mastercard debit/credit cards with no other options.

No, because despite what you may think, those types of games are only a very small slice of the overall profit pie.
Steam can't sell them period because if they put them on the site VISA pulls support. That's the thing.

So it's either "sell, some porn games that 0.005% of the userbase bought and lose access to PROCESSING PAYMENTS" or "Remove the smut most people don't want and still be able to do business."

Offering another way to pay, doesn't remove the content, the content is what makes VISA and Mastercard want to pull out.

It is a "remove the content or make no money" situation, there is no alternative. Allowing the content to be bought another way, leaves the content up, which VISA doesn't want.
If everybody would just switch to PaySafeCard, even temporarily, like for the rest of this year, it would make this go away quickly.
