I sleep soundly knowing Visa is protecting me from bad taste
Just want to give a huge thank you to steam and its financial overlords for finally taking a stand… not against broken games, not against scams, but against the real enemy: letting customers decide what they want.

Sure, 90% of those banned games are creepy, low-effort trash I wouldn’t touch with a hazmat suit , but hey, that’s not the point. The point is now financial institutions can unofficially dictate what content is "acceptable" on the biggest PC gaming platform.

We’ve apparently decided it’s cool for payment processors. the folks who can't even keep fraud detection working right, to act as moral gatekeepers for digital marketplaces. Forget laws, forget content guidelines, forget free expression....all that really matters is whether or not Mastercard / Visa or Paypal approves of your game’s vibe.

Honestly, I love this new system. Who needs principles when you’ve got a corporate risk assessment algorithm calling the shots? Can’t wait until they apply this logic to books, movies, and art galleries. I’m sure we’ll all be much safer from... whatever it is they're protecting us from. Taste? Opinions? Autonomy?

Anyway, thanks again for this bold new era where banks decide culture. What could possibly go wrong?

BTW/ Is Gabe on holiday? Can't believe he's ok with this.

What makes you think he is OK with this.

I don't know if Steam can even be at fault for listening to them and pulling the games. If those companies threatened to stop supporting Steam what are they supposed to do when there's little to no alternative? Where they just supposed to not bend over and go out of business instead?

Bending over without a fight is very weak, don't you think?

Besides, it's not like Valve is poor so they won't go out of business quickly and most countries apart from the USA have other payment processors. So there are definitely options.

In any case, this makes Valve seem very weak and unreliable.

It's called picking and choosing your battles, and when you run a business, you are always careful about what battles you choose.

But what hell, it ain't your money, right? It's always easy to be the armchair quarterback when it's not your money you're spending.

looks like somebody got hacked. spamming vile messages does nothing except get the account banned.

Who knew posting the contact info for visa and MC would get the bots all fired up attempting to get the thread taken down?

I assume they’re hijacked accounts doing this on purpose.

Its a zero account ... i.e. yet another Liberal lunatic ruining the world for the rest of us.

You don't understand how freedom or the lack thereof works. You will, though, when it finally comes for you.

That is the funniest part of all this. You think it can't touch you. but if it can touch others it will eventually work its way towards you.

The shortsightedness of these people simply astounds ...

What are you talking about?
What is a zero account?
And I'm not American, but sure as hell not liberal.

You ever heard of sarcasm?
You're probably younger than my steam account, hence not getting my message.
You baited me with the title, had me until the second half. Well done you glorious bastard.

Jokes aside I actually wonder what Gabe has to say about this. He's not the hero people think he is IMO but I agree I don't think he'd be fine with this.
