Can't link youtube 'brand account' channels
I made a brand youtube channel ages ago and have never been able to link it to steam because the channel doesn't show up as an option when linking youtube videos.
They've never worked, but I just didn't feel like saying anything about it until now because I didn't really care all too much. And I don't think steam does either. But just thought I'd leave a thread here saying that this is broken, because I'm surprised it still doesn't work years later.

Anyway, TLDR: When linking youtube to steam, the only option to select is my main account that doesn't even have a channel attached to it, rather than my actual 'brand' channel with my username that has all of my videos on it. It does not even show up in the options, despite having my brand channel selected as my main channel in my google account settings. I can't connect from the google side either, because steam is not included in the supported 'connected apps.'

The youtube support on steam has been broken for a long while now - when you go to connect your youtube account in the client, it automatically attempts to do so within the client despite this not being functional. (I think this being broken might have something to do with the shift of merging gmail and youtube accounts, which was ages ago.) You have to go into the browser to even attempt it. And then with the introduction of brand accounts, it doesn't seem to have ever been modified to support those. (Or if it was, it's very buggy, because I have yet to get that to work.)

I am just wondering why a feature like this, which is not being given the effort to be maintained, is still being included this many years later? Or why we can't just have something simpler, adding videos via links or something. If they're worried about posting other people's content, I don't see the issue, because people use the 'submit artwork' feature to post other people's unrelated memes and things all of the time.

Anyway, I don't really care too much to link my youtube account to steam, because it isn't like I'm a streamer or anything. But it would be nice to be able to post funny clips or highlight videos to the game communities.

If the brand is under than main account, then link that main account. When you go to actually upload a video, it should allow you to chose your main account or brand account.
@ D. Flame it doesn't, though. My main account is linked. The brand account does not show up on the list under my account when linking to steam. I think I said that at least twice

Then try unlinking it and relinking it, from Youtube's side.

I linked my account a long time ago. For a long time, I was not able to add videos to Steam.

Best I can tell, at some point, youtube changed their API or something (I didn't read that deeply into it).

My best guess was that if you had linked your account before that change, when you tried to add a video to Steam after the change, it was still using the old calls, which no longer matched up with what Youtube was expecting, so it would fail.

So I unlinked my Steam from Youtube (you have to do it on the Youtube/Gmail side), then I waited a bit, then relinked it. After that, everything worked fine.

Not sure if it will work for you, but it worked for me.

Do that first. Then link your GMail account again. Then try to add a video from your brand account.
Oh my god, this might be it. You might be a genius. I will get back to you haha
Ahh, unfortunately that didn't work - it's still not listing my 'brand' channel as an option. It only allows me to sign in to my main with no channel

Sorry to hear that. I don't know anything else to suggest. Hopefully you get it figured out. Good luck.
