Yep, many people have this issue. Hope Steam fixes it soon..
Your profile says you are using an i5-13600KF Raptor Lake CPU. The issues you're experiencing are very likely related to known stability problems that can affect all Raptor Lake processors over time, especially when running older microcode or BIOS versions.
To start troubleshooting, go into your BIOS settings and disable Turbo Boost. If this resolves the issue, the next step is to update your BIOS to the latest version available for your motherboard and reset the BIOS to Intel’s default settings.
Unfortunately, there's no way to fix the physical degradation that can occur within the IA Clock Tree circuits of the CPU cores. This degradation can lead to shifts in clock timing (known as Vmin Shift), resulting in instability across various applications and workloads. These issues can also be influenced by CPU temperature, even if the chip is running well below its maximum thermal limit (TJmax).
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, it could be a problem with your CPU that may require an RMA, or it might be due to conflicting software or drivers.
To better assist you, please provide a detailed list of the software you have installed—especially any anti-cheat programs, overlays, or hardware monitoring tools you’re using. Also, let me know if you're using a multi-monitor setup or anything else that might be relevant.
I’ve already solved this issue on my own PC, so even if your situation is a bit different, the more details you share, the better chance I have of helping you out.
My BIOS is updated to the latest version and microcode. I'm aware of the issues Intel had with those generations of CPU's. This has nothing do to with my PC nor' my PC stability, as its running perfectly fine under all conditions, even while being stress tested. Temperatures are far below their limits as I'm using liquid cooling. I'm not using any software in the background other than Steam and I keep my Windows extremely well organized and focused for gaming. So no bloatware, no software that keeps running in background etc. etc.
This is clearly connected with Steam Overlay as that is the only thing that crashes it, plus, it crashes it randomly. BUT ONLY when I use Steam overlay. ONLY then. People with AMD, Intel, Nvidia configurations have exact same issue, that started happening at exact same time. When Valve pushed Steam update. So this is clearly a client issue that somehow crashes GPU drivers for some reason.
Either way, thanks for such a refined and detailed answer :)
