After more than 20 years of loyal service and over 10,000 euros spent since 2003 (and even earlier if you count Half-Life and the addons)
I am done

I will never buy another game on Steam again
From now on video games will either be completely free to download (wink wink) or they will not exist for me at all
Steam chose to sell out to the banking lobbies
Steam has lost the battle and lost control of its own platform
Gabe Newell is not the incorruptible guy you thought he was.

Advocating for piracy is not the flex you think it is, Sonny Jim. In fact doing so does more harm to the movement of anti-censorship than help it. As does advertising YouTube click bait garbage. Do better.

Valve doing what it did is actually a good thing because it ensures the viability of their business and shows that they care about ensuring a continuing operating model for their users. Sacrificing Steam for a handful of games of questionable content is the stupidest business move one can make, and the very definition of anti-consumer. Valve showed incredible business sense to ensure they remain viable and operational by picking and choosing the battles that need to be fought. Attempting to go against a payment processor monopoly with absolutely no backing and failsafe would be the most absolutely and incredibly stupid move they could have ever made. I am glad they made the one and only correct decision in this circumstance.

The real goal is, and always should be, to focus one's energies on the most productive avenues of advocacy. Peeing into the wind, or shouting into the void by making a useless post in a gaming forum that none of the relevant players in this situation will see or care about is the most least effective means of advocating for less Censorship of art, and by extension, games. It a pointless and idiotic venture. Focus the energies on where it needs to be - by going after the payment processors, and hounding political entities for legislation to ensure that companies like Visa and Mastercard do not have this kind of power. It's time for gamers to stop being entitled, ignorant children and start making the right choices and focusing their energies into the right places. We have already proven that by coming together we can do good things - like forcing change in how gaming journalism operates, and helping those in need with things like Saint Jude's and Extra Life.

Continually posting false and ignorant information on a gaming forum works against everything we should be fighting for. Do better doesn't even cover half of what this community needs to improve upon.
I find it odd that some people expected Steam to not follow through with such deals. They are a business and money is their primary motivation which is why it makes sense as to why they didn't want to jeopardize what they built.

What deal? It's not like they signed a contract with Visa/MC to delist games.

On one hand you’re correct. On the other hand it seems like that motivation would lead them into jeopardizing what they built anyways, if applied more generally to places like itch.io and, going further back. Tumblr.

Given the choice between choice between murder or suicide, trying to fight your way out seems the rational choice not taken by those more dependent on the nsfw.
no such thing as loyal anymore.... disposable..... next.....

the next generation wont even worry about what is going on now....

next....

You've made your account on the 21st of November 2004 OP. Why say that you've been spending X amount of money since 2003 when you weren't even here then?

I see OP continues to invoke a false sense of loyalty.

Such people create their own problems.

Correct. But people want Valve, Itch and such to be our activists so people themselves can sit lazy in their chair.

Instead of expecting others to do their fight for them, they need to do it themselves.

No it's not the rational choice, broheim. That's the suicide choice. Valve took the rational, logical, and survivability choice. Smart people pick and choose which battles to fight, when to fight them, and the right arena in which to fight.

Idiots simply scream into the void attempting to manufacture outrage and demand that Mommy and Daddy Business protect them from the bad people trying to take away their lollipop. That's worthless signaling that rightly should be dismissed and ignored. The actual grown ups will handle the issue where it needs to be handled and do it without all the desperate cries for attention.

"Loyal service". Dude, you're taking yourself waaaaaaaay too important.
I thought this was Steam Discussions not the Departure Lounge.
Want to boycott something, boycott Visa/MC, good luck.
