Does Steam ban scammers? How long does it take?
I had a scammer send me a message last Friday, so I played along without giving up any private info. They were using two accounts and a known scam (described here). I uploaded screenshots of the conversations to imgur and submitted that album when reporting both accounts.

As of today, SteamRep website does not show any ban for either account. Does anyone know if scammers do get banned, or how long it takes?

Depends on if the scammer made the account or not. Scammers use compromised accounts a lot of the time and in those cases Valve will lock the account so the owner can recover it.

As to how long it may take.... when support gets to to the report and does their investigation. Support gets 1000's of reports everyday so stuff can take time.

Well the scammers use fake throwaway accounts, which they probably stole from others to begin with. This method protects their "main" account. So yea, you can ban or report the account that is scamming, but i doubt that is the main account of the scammer. They basically protect themself by having stolen accounts they got from others.

scam someone and find out and report back to us
Steam Support locks accounts which are already compromised after they have being reported. They do not ban the account creator as they are not the scammer. The actual scammer does not use their own account as it is traceable.
