I dont wanna hit level 80
In a year's time, I've gone from level 65 to level 79, all from buying games and and collecting cool badges. Those levels were purple and pink, which complemented my steam profile, but man, is level 80 ugly. I was supposed to craft some cool shiny rare badges, but I'm holding off on that to avoid the XP gain. I'm even holding off buying new games as I'm 7 games away from collecting the "250 games badge". is there no way to stop this?

Nope. There is no way of stopping your level badge or going down to another level.
You could try to aim for level 160+ which starts the purple/pink badge design again.
Of course that would be quiet a bit of money invested.
But unless you want to stop adding/buying games completely or doing anything else that gives XP you will hit that level 80 border at some point.

I've said it before, trying to make your profile aesthetically pleasing, is a losing battle. Even buying a game, increases your XP. It's small, but it does raise it.

You'd basically have to stop doing anything to your account and what's the fun in that?

Also, the 5K game badge is pink.
