Polish prices are a joke #2
This is a continuation of unfrair closed thread https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/discussions/forum/0/7074686901648655277/

How can Valve not update their prices after 2022 crisis?

And thanks to @Tweety we have now direct proof that this is indeed VALVEs issue, not publishers.

This is a quote from the developer I talked about reducing polish price:
"We set one global price, Steam handles the conversions. We have no idea why certain currencies are converted the way they are. I'm sure there's good reasons."

Hmm, so dev admitted he didn't care to set the regional pricing themselves, so it's Valve's problem now?

This "direct proof" proves only, that dev is too lazy to set the prices.

Valve don't set the prices, the devs/publishers do. All Valve do is provide recommended pricing, which devs are welcome to ignore if they wish.
Palworld recently updated their Polish prices.

I think the complaint is valve hasn't updated their recommended pricing guide for the Polish currency since major economic changes have happened. Devs can't follow what isn't provided or kept up to date.
No, it's the dev issue. Dev literally told user in question, that they don't care.

It is not a Valve issue because they do not set the price for 3rd party games.

If they do can you please explain the following.

The Outer Worlds - £24.99 Steam - £24.99 Epic - £24.99 GOG.

The Outer Worlds Spacer Choice Edition - £49.99 Steam - £49.99 Epic - £49.99 GOG.

Ubisoft Connect

Assassins Creed Valhalla: £49.99 on their own platform when not on sale.

£49.99 on Steam and Epic Game Store because Ubisoft sets the price.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a Ubisoft product.

EA Play app

Mass Effect Legendary Edition £49.99 on their own platform.

£49.99 Steam and Epic Game Store because EA sets the price.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is an EA/Bioware product. Bioware is an EA Studio.

Yes publishers/developers set the prices.... but do you know what they uses to set the prices in regions they don't normally have a presence in? The recommendations Steam gives.

If Steam says a $60 game is worth say 280 Zloty (the polish currency) then a company is going to charge 280 zloty for it if they follow the recommended guidelines. In theory this should result in a game being an equal burden to buy regardless of the region you bought it in (basically a day's wages of minimum wage.)

Obviously the world's economy changes all the time and different economies are in different states at different times so the conversion rate should be updated regularly, the problem is the Polish conversion rate hasn't been updated since I believe 2022, leading to a huge disparity in what should be recommended and what is recommended.

For example Palworld recently went and did all the math themselves and for the $30 USD game which used to cost 138,99 zł (~$38 based on today's rates) now they are charging 99,99 zł ($27.50 based on today's exchange rates) so basically the difference of $10 for a $30 game being corrected. if a $60 game is corrected I would expect a $20 difference which is a sizable chunk of cash. meaning that $60 game should cost about 200 zl.

Now if steam updated their Polish recommended price structure and people didn't follow it, then you are right it would be something to take up with the developer, but at this point it is a steam issue because steam is giving outdated info to developers.

The Witcher 3...

CDPR set the price at 99,99zł = $27.35

Valve's suggested price 184,99zł = $50.64

So, the game dev "you talked to" was just too lazy to care about entering in a few numbers into the Polish entry field.

Got it.

Developer is paying Valve 30% of their revenue for this type of service. It is Valves job to keep it updated because they are charging developers for the service.

And they did. Dev asked for X$ and everyone is being charged that in their currency. If dev wanted to make a special case for a region, they are able to. It's their job as a party setting the prices.

They last updated it in OCT 2022, at a time when the Zloty was very weak compared to other curriences. If they had chosen another month or updated it since the issue that is being complained about would not be happening.

Valve advertises their system for determing regional pricing, saying they go into the "nuts and bolts" of it all, saying how complicated and challenging it is. So it makes sense for developers, who are paying 30% of their revenue to Valve, to trust in Valve's advertisement of this system.

If developers cannot trust that and have to do the work themselves anyways, then Valve has no business charging so much for their service.

I was talking about the "proof" OP had, not Steam's suggested prices.

Epic also advertises regional prices BUT neither Valve, nor Epic set the price for 3rd party games the developer, publishers do. Revenue share in turn has zero to do with consumers.

And that is why:

The Outer Worlds is £24.99 on Steam, Epic and GOG.

The Outer Worlds Spacer Choice Edition is £49.99 on Steam, Epic and GOG.

Assassins Creed Valhalla: is £49.99 on Ubisoft Connect, Steam and Epic.

Why do you keep bringing up pounds? People aren't saying that there is a problem with every conversion, the complaint is with the Polish conversion.
