Steam/Valve communications
Do these guys ever openly talk to their users weekly or even daily? Or just when they need the press?

Multiple things under their umbrella are just left to rot for a long time while the entire company has 20 million trips across the globe funded by an IP older than everyone there expect gabeN himself who acquired the IP and added a skin shop to fund his mega yacht.

Where do you get updates for Valve/Steam??? Do they talk to us at all

You know, to be fair, I have no idea. I get that they're a huge company likely and therefore likely don't have time to talk but it would be nice if it felt like there were other people on the other side of the screen. You're right about the IP thing. I don't think that's been updated in the past decade. Why...? I don't think anyone really knows for sure. I mean, you could ask but alas, it'll likely get ignored. Last time I spoke with anyone at Valve was months ago. I most cases, the only time Valve reaches out to anyone is when i specifically reach out first. Unless they're handing you a waning/ban, they never really contact first
What exactly is it you want to know? Everything but the following?

i'm upset I've spent so much time on Valve games when we get nothing in return. I hear more about company trips, record breaking payouts, or how Gabe loves to snorkel three times a day than i do about what makes them the money.

I'm even more disappointed we as a community haven't stepped up in some way and said talk to us. tell us what you're doing.

they dont use the forum to post only the steam news section. and even then they dont say much, mostly when they have to say something.
and you got the game in exchange of money, thats the entire transaction.
Valve employees go out and talk with game devs all the time.

Edit: Oh. You want personal attention.

Yeah, Valve's not going to be our BFF.
It feels like these forums are flooded with them TBH

They just don't wear the label

It is true though. It's a rudderless company. We hardly hear anything at all. Who even owns this company atp? We assume it's Mr Newell, but that may not even be true.

That's why i only spend money on a handful of games here, and why i think people have to be nuts to have PC their main gaming platform.

One day, poof. No more games, no more Steam, no more Mr Newell.

Too much of a gamble with ones money.

Most of my direct communication with Valve employees has been telling someone who I have a way of contacting outside of the normal means (AKA Steam Support, so stuff like social media or being friends on Steam) that something is broken right now and having them forward it to whoever needs to know internally.

As a game developer, the way you talk to Valve is via Steam Support (there's a special option for contacting them as a game developer that sends your ticket to the business team rather than the regular account support team). Valve doesn't tend to say anything publicly unless they can give a definitive answer (like if someone asks a question on the developer forum about something that they can definitely already do but don't know how) or when they're publicly announcing something (AKA news posts).

I meant in person events. Some employees go to a bunch of dev events/expos/cons.

Oh yeah, they definitely do that. As well as big group video calls three times a year right before Next Fest. I just don't get out of the house much.
