Turn off On Screen Keyboard?
I'm trying to play PS4 games using the PS4 Remote Play app but left clicking on my DS4 keeps opening the stupid steam keyboard and messing stuff up. I read that there's an option to change it if I have the beta version of steam but I see no options, even in the opted beta. I'm not in big picture mode because I'm not playing a steam game but I still want to be able to chat with my steam friends so I can't just exit steam.
Am I missing the option? Is there any other way to disable it? It is literally useless to me so a full disable would be nice.
Please help!

Okay, I can work around the problem by going into big picture mode and disabling steam from using my controller at all but now I will have to open BPM and enable it the next time I want to play a steam game. Would still like a better option. Let me turn off the On Screen Keyboard in addition to selecting what kind of keyboard it will use.

I realize this is months later, but go to BPM and under "controller" there are three options for settings. The second one: "base configurations" will let you customize how the PS4 controller behaves in different scenarios.

The "desktop configuration" is where the on screen keyboard setting is located. This drove me nuts when I was trying to play a non-Steam game a while back. I think it was DA:I and I was using a third-party software to convert the DS4 inputs in to Xbox inputs, but Steam kept thinking I was using an Xbox controller in desktop mode and wanted to open the keyboard every time I clicked the stick. I just ended up closing Steam while I played that game and this trick would have helped me out quite a bit.

Alternatively (although I've not tested this) you could "add a non-Steam game" to your library and launch PS4 Remote Play from there. Steam might consider it to be a game and read your controller inputs as

Anywho, thanks for being one of the top results on Google for my problem, you made me go back and comb through all of BPM's settings. I hope this helps!

Greetings, I have a friend suffering from the same issue using XBOX ONE controller, could you please detail the steps you took to end the issue?, does launching steam games from another client solve the issue?, and do you need to keep steam open as long as you play a steam game that you launched through another client?

So to make thing simpler:

Settings > Controller > Desktop Configuration > (Left Analog Setting) > "Click Action" > press [Remove]

FYI, Controller need to be connected to be able to open that Settings

Settings > Controller > Desktop Configuration > Browse Configs Button > Choosing Disabled disables all Desktop bindings.

2024 Edit: Settings > Controller > Desktop layout (Edit button) > Disable Steam Input
Note: Controller has to be connected.

For anyone like me who found this in Google with a "how do I remove this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ piece of ♥♥♥♥ keyboard off the screen" search, the 2018 version is:

Big Picture, Settings, Base Configuration, Desktop Configuration, move to the left axis stick showing up/down/left/right/AnnoyEveryoneWithKeyboard and hit enter. Move to Click Action, hit enter, and select Remove.

Just another tip for those of you who can't find the "remove" button, it's the minus or negative icon on the far right after selecting "Click Action"

It's pretty awesome. Flickering white at the menu. Various flashes of red/yellow depending on the situation.
