Workaround for small mode:

There are several ways to get the old version back, 1 way is to copy all the old files and force steam to not update. I don't recommend this method at all so i made a simple way to launch steam in small mode instead.

Via a desktop shortcut with no stopping updates or having to copy over old files.

Very simple just add the following to a text file and rename it whatever you like .bat instead of .txt

echo off@
start steam://open/minigameslist
Test

Steam Client Beta - December 18, 2019
DEC 18 @ 5:08PM - PHILIPLA
The Steam Client Beta has been updated with the following changes:

General
  • Fixed the overlay not working correctly or crashing some DXGI/DX12 games in upcoming Windows Insider builds.
Library
  • Added sort by Steam Review to shelves and app grids.
  • Fixed an issue where removing the last non-Steam game from a collection would cause it to spontaneously reappear at a later time like an unwanted holiday houseguest.
Linux
  • Only execute steam-runtime-system-info when needed for diagnostics.

Welcome to my world... 10 years ago... when your generation started fiddling with my interfaces that worked fine.

idk what you guys are talking about, but things look nicer then before, but mind you it would have been nice to have an option to keep it the old way for those who don't like radical chnage.

Will people really uninstall Steam permanently? I mean, it's a valid path and good threat but will it actually happen large-scale? Are people willing to lose access to every game they own on Steam over a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, but inevitable UI change? Just curious... because despite whatever feelings I have over the new Friends list and UI changes, I won't cut off my gaming nose to spite Steam's face. I want my games.
Im not going to quit gaming. ill just use origin, uplay etc

He did not ask if ppl wanted to give upp gaming in generall. just question if people would get through with their threads to leaving steam, with all their games and annuall sales or feuture releases. While not knowing they are actually working on the problem or not.

Then people got the "nochatui" and "nofriendsui" to try to disable it, and valve fixed it too. So now we can't do anything
Wait what? When did they fix that? It still works for me.

Nice crappy assumptions there but I like it and many others do too as well. What's hard is for people like you to deal with it. And it's fine. Just quit if you want, I doubt anybody really care...

I think the point you're missing..........yeah.....people just might leave.

I mean "Solo" did really well, and that was Star Wars....you think pepole can't buy games elsewhere?

Be careful how confident you are in welcoming a mass exodus there sparticus.

I've been here 13 years now, and I think this UI incident is just the most recent example of the developer degredation that valve has suffered in the last few years.

People keep wanting them to release a new half-life, I honestly don't think they could do it even if they wanted to, if they jacked up their own client, i doubt they could handle a game like that anymore, and that's just soul crushing to think but I feel like this is what is going on.

Valve quietly and over the span of years moved from a game development company to a marketing company, and they did suffer a brain drain, with alot of their senior developers leaving and now all of a sudden, really in the first time that I've been here it seems this is the one time i can remember besides steams EARLY days where a change to the client seemed to be so universally hated.

Well, we'll see what will come.

Mass quit won't happen. Steam is way too popular to just die randomly. The minority that keeps crying can leave for all we care. And they apparently keep doing well with Dota and etc. So yeah, anybody that assume that Steam is dying is probably wrong. If people are so whiny that they quit over something this minimal then let them. His assumptions are BS and this can't be denied.

It's not universally hated. Posts like that are an exaggeration.

You seem to forget that people who don't care or are happy with it, won't post threads about.

Ok, well if you say so, I guess that is accurate and we have to just "trust you".

Oh, and looking at your profile name, if you really mean quit Steam, that includes using the forums here.

I mean if you really, really mean to "quit Steam", that includes using the forums, right ?

Otherwise, it's just hypocritical. New users that make new accounts also won't really care about these changes, as it won't be a "change" for them. So they won't care. And Steam will just keep growing and growing.

Trust me. :steamhappy:

I'm largely indifferent to the new UI, and I don't see why we can't propose a more reasonable compromise over predicting a supposed "mass exodus".

Steam will die. Trust me, Steam isn't as popular as google or youtube. Even if you ask your grandma or some outdated teachers, they still know that google and youtube are very good for looking up stuff. The people who have steam are gamers who understand that the new update is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, and they will leave

Apples, oranges...
