How about your friend posts in the discussion hub of the game and lists the system specs of the computer that encountered the problem.

Keep in mind that Borderlands GOTY Enhanced has higher system requirements.

See I'm having the same problem I was literally playing the game last night at ultra setting woke up this morning and it wasn't working so specs have nothing to do with this but I'm stumped I tried everything with mine today reinstalled it twice verified the files through property everything's saying this should be running except the error that keeps popping up

Having this same issue, my game crashed and now it's having this issue.

Got 3 hours in playing fine so it's definitely not a specs thing.

I'm having the same issue after a game crash. Tried verifying files, reinstalling and the whole nine yards.

Still not the Borderlands GOTY Enhanced Discussion hub.

Managed to fix my game by deleting the Steam/steamapps/common/BorderlandsGOTY folder and the Documents/My Games/BorderlandsGOTY folder, then turning off cloud save in the Borderlands GOTY Enhanced properties and reinstalling.

This worked for me! You will have to turn cloud saves back on if you want to access characters you've made in this version however

I just deleted the BorderlandsGOTY folder on Documents/My Games and i started the game on steam and it fix it the issue,my save is intact and i just had to re-configure my settings but thats all,its working fine now.

My friend has been getting this error message when launching the game (Borderlands GOTY Enhanced)

He has tried:

Verifying files
Reinstalling the game
Reinstalling the game on a different drive

Nothing has worked.

Anyone know how to fix this?

If anyone is still having issues with this, I think the best solution is to turn off your Onedrive if you are using Windows 10. It is backing up all your documents which includes your save files of the game, making the game think that the files you have in there are corrupted thats why it comes up with the initialization error. If you want to reload your save games , you have to fetch it from onedrive and manually put it in there. that's what i did, work very well for me.

i was having the same issue, did all i could think and it didnt work and than i just did what you said and it worked this makes no sense to me how deleteing the folder makes it comesback to life, old games on steam are a mystery but thanks anyways
