If Steam shuts down...
What would happen with all our games? If I keep investing money from this day to 10 years in the future, will my son be able to play them? Do we have any warranty Steam wont go to red numbers and letting us without service? Just wondering because I haven't seen any clause that protect us from this kind of scenario.... :steamsad:

In all already-existing threads, it has been rumored that Steam would get a last patch disabling its DRM component, according to this Support answer[i.imgur.com]. No further information has leaked, though.

Got to admit, at least they planned for that.

Some publishers might give you keys for some other service, but in general, don't count on it. Most of your stuff will be gone.

Possibly, although they would still be on *your* account.

How could they do that? And why doesn't every company just put a "we will not die" into their agenda?

Odds are Steam would be purchased and rebranded rather than outright shutdown. In the case it is shutdown though, there is the potential you could lose everything that requires Steam to run.

Of course the screenshot could be the truth and they've made provisions for such, although I wouldn't take a CSR's word as gospel on that matter.

In the event that Steam does shut down, follow these protocol procedures.

  1. STEAM announces shutdown of all services.
  2. Begin full download of all games in your Steam account.
  3. Upon completion, use Steam's BACKUP GAMES feature and save an additional image of your Steam games.
  4. Ascertain how you may be able to access your games in the future. Will Steam release a DRM-disabling patch allowing non-restricted usage of Offline-Mode?
Will the Steam servers still be up, providing verification of ownership required for multiplay?
