(Steam deck) Game Recording only captures top-left corner of screen
For some reason, I’ve noticed that when I set my Game Recording settings to record in the background, only the top-left corner of the screen is visible (at least after recording in gaming mode + while connected to tv via hdmi). Is there some setting I need to adjust to fix this, or is this a bug?

Does it do with every game or just one? If it happens with just one game, you may need to adjust the graphical settings for that game.

if you have not tested it with any other game, i suggest you try that first. See if the same bug happens in another game.

Good call. It seems to occur with Elite: Dangerous, the Prism Launcher, and Tactical Breach Wizards (edit: shortened this title by accident initially), at least.

So are you connected to a tv and not a monitor? What kind of tv are you using?

Also, check the tv manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update for you tv you use.

It’s a Samsung smart TV of some sort. Yeah, might check the firmware if I can, or at least update it in general

It sounds like a issue with your tv possibly. You may want to email them to ask for help. Or it could be with steam recording itself. It might not be compatible with your tv set. Because of how new the recording stuff is, we cannot be sure at this point.

You can also ask steam support and see if they say anything.

In case it helps anyone else, in starting to think that switching the max resolution settings from “default” to “native” helped

Ignore this, it may instead be tied to the display settings under “automatically set resolution”, under gamescope 7” display scaling.
Have my steam deck hooked up with the official Valve dock to a monitor, was experiencing the same issue recently and what finally fixed it was simply turning off Automatically Set Resolution in the Display settings for Steam. I was able to leave it at higher resolutions but just toggling that option off seems to have fixed it for me.
