Microphone capture is too loud in Steam Recording
I have an issue with new Steam recording feature. My microphone is being captured too loud to the point of clipping. Enabling / disabling the automatic gain control in "recording" settings section doesn't change anything. Modifying the volume in Steam "Voice" section doesn't fix it either. Everywhere else (Discord, MS Teams, built-in in-game voice chats etc.) it works perfectly fine.
My mic setup:
  1. Generic XLR mic
  2. Behringer UMC22 audio interface (I control the gain here)
  3. Windows (Volume set to fixed 75%)
  4. SteelSeries Sonar - Mic (Enabled noise gate @ -40dB & clearcast AI noise reduction)

Same here. No other application captures my keyboard, but steam recording has some crazy gain even with the gain setting completely off

Also using Steelseries Sonar and my microphone is super loud in the recording

I have this problem too. I'm using a steam deck with the Sony pulse headset. I've tried everything I could think of and nothing helped.

It's automatic gain control in the steam recording settings that's causing the issue, If you switch it off your mic will be super quiet tho. I've been looking for help but haven't found anything that worked. Something that seemed to help the peaking at least for me was leaving automatic gain control on and lowering the mic volume in windows settings to about 60%

Hi friends. I found the fix (particularly if you are using an XLR mic):

Steam Settings -> Voice -> Show Advanced Settings

Voice Transmission Threshold -> OFF
Disable: Echo cancellation, Noise cancellation, Automatic volume/gain control
Use the Microphone Test to mess with your gain and get it sounding correct

Disable: Steam Settings -> Game Recording -> Automatic Gain Controll
