first time posting sorry if I don't give enough info

whenever I am using my external hardrive to update / install games its noticeably slower than my internal. the download complete will be 5.1gb out of 5.1gb but but verifying the files will take a up to a hour sometimes. it never affects gameplay just the time it takes to update / Install
