Older games making my antimalware act up and causing huge lag spikes. Any fixes?
I've been trying to get sonic adventure 2 up and running without issue but I cant get this problem to go away for good. I'll try online fixes and I can play 1 1/2 levels before suddenly my memory starts going crazy, shooting up to 50% usage trying to find the malware effecting me. I don't want to delete/disable my anti malware but I also don't want to NOT play this game.

Does anyone have any fixes? (Be warned I'm the tech illiterate and will need step by steps and the most basic of things explained)

Edit: Antimalware service executable is what's causing the spikes specifically, my OS build is 26100.4061, I have a windows 11 computer, I've tried excluding the game itself and all of steam to no avail, and this ONLY happens when playing sonic adventure 2 a game from the gamecube era. I still REALLY need help here

Recheck store information or game requiremnts, game developer page store, steam store page with detail on the game information.

* Starting January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later versions.

This info will not be there if game work at steam, other old game where game devs fix this or follow MS directions in how things is made.

alot of ppl talk about run them games in VM, not sure where this ends , just like DosBox games.

Most "antimalware" software should have a feature where you can whitelist a program, which should stop it from trying to check it.

I'm so sorry, this was complete gibberish to me. Okay, first line, recheck storage information. What storage information? For... the game? My computer? And how would I go about checking that?

And I cant even comprehend the last part. I'm really sorry. Like I said, tech ILLITERATE. Speak to me like i'm a literal baby

I think I added the game to exclusions?? I have no clue. I'll play a few levels and get back to you

If you do not know how steam store work and where and how you buy them, most here will not help you.

And you also tell us you have no skill at PC , VM is searchable in any search engine.'

we are not going to provide a dictionary here. or explan all detail.

and ys i said storaege informantion, i ment store. still you should be able to pick up on that.

Recheck store information or game requiremnts, game developer page store, steam store page with detail on the game information from steam that add a line with a statement at buttom of the screen.

This line actual say alot about what steam already know, and why the did it.

Not a win10+ game.
why will they even add the line if game actual works, as other old games do fallout 1 still sork as a example.

Again this is all just gibberish to me. I can't tell a typo from what you actually mean, that's how much I don't know.

I don't know what knowing how to buy a game has to do with what we're talking about or why that would make people not help me??

I don't know what a "VM" is nor how to even search that up on the internet to get what YOU mean by two letters.

I'm not asking for a dictionary, I said that I needed more information than the average person because I don't understand computers in the slightest. I said "be warned" literally, not figuratively, I'm an idiot. Using acronyms we haven't even explained what they mean once is adding to the confusion.

Why would I know you meant store instead of storage information? The sentence makes just as much sense to me with or without the typo.

I do see it says the whole "windows 10 and later versions" on the SA2 steam page but I don't see where it says what windows the game runs on? It says it recommends 7? Like I said it loads up and plays fine for a while, it just starts having lag spikes. Also it's over a year past that date, if the game wasn't able to run wouldn't it just... not run??

And Idk why they would add the line if the game didn't work anyways, you're the one who brought up windows 10 and compatibility and stuff. Idk anything about it so idk what you want from me on this front.

Please, if you wouldn't mind fully explain yourself and reread your comments for typos AT LEAST ONCE to make sure there isn't so much miscommunication between our comments because I feel like we're kinda talking past each other.

No, it's still happening. If it matters its specifically the anti malware service executable. I don't know what part of my computer it belongs to if wasn't the "windows security" part so I'm not sure what to do

You make a mistake here, no write like this, disk operating system emulated in windows as a box so old games can run.

Viatual machine so old OS can be emulated so old software can run there, a school kid know this if they have IT

Its more like im a adult and think i know all and all is gibberish, with thing i have not learn,
you don't ask speccific and think rest of the world will explan you basic knowledge most aa actual know today, people are done explan things with things can be search for in any serach engine.

hey gl with the i don't have to investigate anything myself.

and you should ask whats is VM , you did not, this is basic knowledge soon , becuase emulating some system apps that notsupport or work at newer system or company that made is gone, is common knowledge, and app die with it, if you dont do VM.

People will not explan this to every steam user, steam has 1+ billion , not going to happend.

ps.
If there is something you do not understand ask specific, and be lucky if someone will reply on it.

Dont expect every stem helper will tell things in detail.

Any heducate IT person that read book know exatly you need to go lookup own book reference in what something mean.

But at steam, user this is uncommon to have to do something.or check fact , what if helepr make a mistake and you do it, there are old post that is seen harmfull today.

This will only get worse, just wait 10 years , and all will assume you know alot about pc or IT.

Just so steam user might get it, pc has been there in a long time then i was kid with vic20 & c64 , pc was also there. ( im sure ppl here that has 60 or 30+ years will not explan things like this, and i bet next gen people that know alot more the middle generation will either. they have IT in school today, things past generation did not.

Maybe we should post this, its a start to some of it. (rest id your own task to ask or look it up )
https://www.coursera.org/articles/it-terms

The last 2 is for advace user, do not try learn them all if you try do exam they are ment for later, then you need a specific info you have forgot ort dont know. ( the book you read should cover own explanation, and dont expect they know all. some time some has multi explanation. ( so watchout for they can mean total diffrent thinsg then talk with other people. )

gl with it.
