Good gaming laptops under $1k?
My old 12 year old laptop is sadly about to kick the bucket soon with stutters and program freezing and i think it's better to just upgrade and buy a new laptop all together than try to fix and repair the old one (Fans shot battery never worked and it's just time to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 11 or 10 idk whats new)

people of steam

please

any recommendations?

my criteria if possible is:

-enough storage to run at least 30 steam games at once so i dont have to be uninstalling and reinstalling

-can run project zomboid, FO4 at medium graphics / low graphics, and TF2 at high or medium graphics

I don't really care about newer titles that need those fancy crystal glass graphic textures i just wanna play old games and indie games that use less than 3 gigs for their games without worry.

Bonus if it has a good battery (old one on laptop sucked) and strong fans / vents (old one fans also never really did much after 3 years)

also please for the love of god don't recommend me the steam deck

i know it's good and people glaze it but i want a physical computer i can also do stuff like reports or type up things and run programs for everyday workday or something specific

i just don't like handhelds all that much
if it's by walmart or a super store even better to cut wait time and probably shipping fees

https://a.co/d/ekBADX7 sonething like this. People might cry over the 4050, forgetting your budget and what you're running currently. For you it would be a huge upgrade.

yeah anything is an upgrade atm lol

ive had this one since 2013
it was actually dirt cheap b/c a newer slimmer model came out and they were practically "giving" these out at huge discounts to get rid of em.

only spent about $400 which isn't too bad and it lasted me almost 13 years with some hardware issues but nothing too major.

For around 800-900 bucks you usually get a laptop with a RTX 4060 on sale.
I would aim for that. Would be the most bang for your buck.

You get one with a 4060 for cheaper.

Everything higher gets really expensive. You can get a laptop with a 4060 below 1k.
4070 and upwards are usually 1.5k o more. And if you want a brand new 5000 series GPU you are looking at 2.5 - 3k at least.

A 4060 is still enough to play every modern game in 1080p ( which those laptops usually are) at high/max settings and 60+ FPS. Often a lot more.
So its definitely what you should aim for with your budget.
There are some limiting factors like the 8 GB of VRAM which become more and more outdated with newer releases but thats the compromise for paying that little for a gaming laptop.

I unfortunately do not have model recommendations but here's my 2 cents/recommendations:

- Look up a tear down of the laptop or checking if memory modules are user upgradable. Some laptops on the cheaper end have the memory soldered to the board and can't be upgraded. The same for storage as well.

- Price check it across many sites. Price matching saves a lot of money when doable.

- Check if the model has reasonable thermals. Some laptops are absolutely heaters these days.

-Check if there are any reported hinge issues, some laptops have very fragile hinges thewse days.

Also you can consider used as well, the games you have listed run fine on Laptops with like 3070/3070ti's which I have seen go for $400 - $600 on the used market here and there.

If this is stuff you already knew, my bad. I just wanted to toss my 2 cents in and possibly help people who may be viewing this thread consider these things.
no i do not

i know very little about computer parts and specs hence asking the forums.

everyone keeps telling me AT LEAST a 4060 for a GPU processor or something and to make sure to price check.

aside from that not much else i know

no name brands or specific names dropped of certain computer laptops recommendations.

treat it as if i've lived in some jungle tribe in a desert and moved out due to bad farming and thus have zero to little knowledge about computers.

the more specified the better
but yeah as one guy said any point now is an upgrade since it is a 12 year old computer laptop. Served me well but dying all things come to an end and it is soon.

though again anything about storage ram specifications GPU graphic cards storage capacity COOLING FANS etc.

also to AVOID any specific models graphic cards etc.

i know from a fact toshiba is a big nono got screwed in the past if they even make any laptops nowadays / are still kicking?!?

also probably no chromebooks or anything with linux / apple due to having a different operating system.

pretty much sticking ti windows 7 / 10 or maybe 11 idk again been 12 years
