strange "download failed" issues
Attempting to download the Mad Max game from 2015 since ive been in the mood to chip at the backlog, but whenever i click 'install' it immediately changes to 'download failed'. This happens every time i try it. Here is what i have tried:

1. steam cache has been cleared
2. trying to install to different drives (one has about 200gb free, the other 1.5TB)
3. installing other games works completely fine, on both drives.

Im kinda out of ideas, ya'll have any?

Validate game intergrity of files, or wipe that game folder and steam download folder for corupted files.

You can also try clear dl cache or change steam DL zone.

make sure its not one of the disk write error. that mean check disk from OS maybe.
or try another drev.

Atleast you know the free space issue, but you forgot to tell us what you try to DL.
if this is BGIII you need way more free space then 200gb.
so do alot of next gen games, 150gb dl then unpacking and process of temporary data will need way more free space.

gl with it.

ahh i miss the mad max info somehow.

32 GB available space multiplyed by 3 to 5 if we follow old zip archived ways, and its not a free space issue . you have other drev issue, might be aniti virus app that effect sync or transer checksum, what cause this we dont know, feel free to ask steam suport.

We assume drev work as it should and somehow this always look like a near full drev issue at
loweset drev free space , i assume steam default is installed there, try make more free room as test, i and other do not have better advice,

Because , its funny how replace drev fix everything, see other steam post why this is so.

And ofc we think look like signs or drev is show signs or being old. because other user have even formated the drev and all is fine, and yet it keep doing so. and problem go away with neww drev. or replacement of cable to it can sometimes remove some of the problem.

And we are not drev support here in steam forum, ask own Brand Drev support page for that. but most of them imo use send drev in for testing. and then warranty is gone then case like this end with replacement of the drev.

Thanks for the help!
i figured it out, it turns out that i installed this game around 7-8 years ago on a different drive when i was using windows. Steam has checks in place to make sure you don't have duplicate installs on your system and cause bloat, however, this drive was not initialized since it only hosts my old windows 7 install and nothing else. So, even though i had enough space where i was trying to put the game install, steam could not begin the download because it detected the app ID on an uninitialized drive that was in the system and could not delete it since it didn't have access(for some reason this info isn't stored in the Cache or any of the logs for errors). The fix is to either initialize the drive, or to remove it.
