Help! Unable to log into Steam from my desktop shortcut
I've just started running a new, upgraded PC. All the info on my old machine was cloned across to the new drives and everything seems to be working OK except that I'm now unable to open Steam from my desktop shortcut so I can't access any of my games. I can, however, log onto Steam via the internet.

I'm getting the following error message along with 5 options to try:

'steamwebhelper, a critical Steam component, is not responding. The Steam UI will not be usable. Click here for more information.'

The options are: Restart Steam; Restart Steam with GPU accelerator disabled; Restart Steam with browser sandboxing disabled; Restart steamwebhelper and Exit.

I've tried the first three options without any result. I haven't a clue where to find steamwebhelper or what to do to activate it.

I have noticed that I have the facility to install Steam which I assume would overwrite and repair the steamwebhelper program. I am a bit wary of doing so in case it creates more problems.

I've contacted Steam Support but I have no idea how long it will be before I get a reply. Can anyone offer any suggestions or help, please? If you can, please bear in mind that I'm by no means an advanced user so a lot of technological terms will go straight over my head.

Many thanks.

OK. So I did a bit more digging to find out that it was safe to reinstall Steam. having done that, all is now OK :steamhappy:
