Need help recovering old account
I had a steam account I forgot the password to in 2016 and no longer have the email anymore. I recently found the username just to see it was online under 24 hours ago, most likely has been hacked as it was saying I have played 3 new games I have never seen before. I started using the ticket system for steam support to try retrieve the account however I can only remember my old email address. Steam support says there has been card purchases on the account( which isn’t mine) and since it’s not mine, I don’t know the card details which they need to prove ownership of the account. Can anyone help retrieve my account as the support doesn’t seem to be very helpful.

Steam Support will only give you access to the account if and only if you provide all the information they require to prove you are the creator of the account.

All the details on the account now are ones used by a new owners such as the credit card, how can I prove it’s me when I don’t even know the hackers credit card details? Talking to support is like speaking to a brick wall.
You do not need to know their card details to prove it is your account.

You currently have the following proof.

Username (account). The original email address.

What you now need to do is try to remember the following:

Bank linked to your payment method and any games you purchased upon account creation.

My point is I never used a card/made a purchase on that account. The only purchases have been made after it had been hacked. So when support asks me repetitively about my card details, they aren’t even my card details so I wouldn’t know. Is there any way around this? I have given them my original email and personal details which isn’t enough as they need the payment method which I said before isn’t mine.

if you cannot provide what is being asked you are essentially sol as what you are doing is the same as hijcker would do, hence why support is not easily handing over the account.

Is it not a common scenario for someone’s account to be hacked and foreign card to be used? Basically there is no hope for retrieving the account?

If you do not have what support is asking for, and they will not accept another form of proof of ownership, then you are done. The account will remain locked and out of you control forever.

If you never bought a single thing on it, why do you even care enough to want it back?

Edit: Never mind, I just looked at your profile and saw all the CS skin groups you have added. Everything about this sounds like a scam.
