What are all possible locations for save files?
I started playing Power SinK on a laptop not powerful enough to run the game over 30 FPS, which is not great. I nonetheless got far enough that I don't want to restart from 0 on my desktop computer. Unfortunately, the game doesn't implement cloud saves, and I've been unable to locate the save file on my disk so I could transfer it to the other computer.

Among others that I've already forgot about, I've searched the following locations:

C:\Users\<YourName>\Documents\My Games\<GameName>\
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\<GameName>\
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\<GameName>\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\<GameName>\

Of course I posted on the forum dedicated to the game, but the dev doesn't seem very responsive.

If it's not in the remote userdata steam folder then it could literally be anywhere on a game-by-game basis.

what about steam/userdata/userid/gameid/remote ?

(if it supports cloudsaves you just have to install it on the desktop)

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, there is only one folder created recently and it's empty. :/

There's a million and one possible locations. And it doesn't really matter where other games usually have save files, Power Sink may use one of those, or something completely different.

I did a quick search but it seems like between the game being new, and not very active some of that misc information hasn't been mentioned much. This is a case where you might contact the developer and ask them for support. The developer may not run support out of their forums (Steam doesn't after all).

shot in the dark:

Save File Locations

This app does not have Steam Auto-Cloud configured, which likely means save files are in [Steam Install]/userdata/{Steam3AccountID}/2289740/ folder.

This sounds a little non-committal, but since beggars can't be choosers, worth a look.

Right, hadn't even thought they might have a Discord channel. They do, but the last message is exactly a month old... that doesn't bode well. At some point I think I'm just going to refund the game!

You only have 2 weeks real time/2hours of gametime to make the decision to refund it. have to make your decision on that pretty fast.

Thanks for the reminder.
From what's I've seen, the game seemed ok but not great, and this situation did really frustrate me. I requested a refund.

Thanks everyone for trying to help :)

I've played a game that saved it's data in the Windows registry.
I've also heard of one that saved progress through achievements.

Through achievements is actually kind of smart.

But the registry? What the heck!

registry makes sense if the data to persist as a snapshot is minimal.

Save locations can greatly vary between games, there's no enforced standard. Failing any documentation, one way to get it is to observe where the game's executable accesses files from using the resource monitor or similar tools.

The game didn't have a lot of information it needed to save. Just your last checkpoint location ,which collectables you had found, and what achievements were unlocked.
