I’m a bit surprised that the word in question is being treated as offensive. As far as I understand, it’s not a slur nor is it tied to anyone’s identity. It’s more of an old-fashioned, sarcastic term for calling someone ignorant.

Maybe we've just become a bit too comfortable with sanitizing everything, even when no real harm is intended or even caused.

DBD Devs run that place as a civil-only board a majority of the time, it's not a place for people to try bear-poking.

The way that words tends to be used these days by people, is typically not tongue-in-cheek nor comes across as such, thus a hub like DBD wont tolerate it.

Though it comes to question which team gave the notification, if it was the Dev that would likely be more than a warning.

Well, sometimes our understanding isn't the correct one.

Yes, it can be considered offensive and the context you post doesn't make it less that. Warning seems applied correctly.

Calling someone a name , regardless if it's curse word or not, is against the community guidelines. It is an offense. You are meant to treat everyone with respect. Address the subject matter, not the author.

Falling back on being pedantic to try and pretend it's not an insult isn't the big brain move you think it is.

There's lots of old timey things you can say that are still insults, personal attacks, and offensive. Maybe save your old timey insults for the old timey insult championships.

And to be clear, I understand feeling like you toed the line and didn't cross it and what you said wasn't really offensive or intended to be, it's irritating. But feeling irritated isn't the same as being wronged and treated unfairly.

The golden rule of forums is, "Attack the idea, not the person". And referring to someone as a troglodyte is a personal attack no matter how you personally feel about it. It's actually really easy to get the point across without personal attacks. Plus tearing someone's stupid ideas to smithereens still often leaves them feeling insulted. But it's a lot harder to get someone modded for not liking your ideas.

The comment: 'Don't give this [redacted] the time of day, he's just farming clown points.'

This was in response to what was clearly a ragebait post on the Dead by Daylight discussion board. While I understand the need for moderation, I feel my remark was relatively tame and aimed more at discouraging engagement with trolling behavior rather than being genuinely offensive.

I mean yeah, cut and dry. it's name calling. In that context Troglodyte is an direct and explicit insult. You were right to be moderated. Don't do that thing you just did and you won't have any problems.

Don't refer to other users directly by unfavorable adjectives. Quibble about the details of the word all you want, you're missing the point. Don't name call.

Now... if it were me. I might have said, "I wonder what group of troglodytes elected OP to post this nonsense?" If i was compelled to bust out the T word. The difference is I didn't call OP a troglodyte, I referred to hypothetical people who cannot be insulted. Although one might infer that birds of a feather flock together.

If you make a habit of not name calling, it's easy to not get moderated and still get your point across, even if it's harsh.

You're free to your own opinions. You'll have to get used to the fact they often don't matter outside your skull. When you run your own forums you can let people refer to each other as troglodytes all you want. On Steam, probably gonna get you moderated most of the time no matter how you feel about it.
