Corrupted Downloads
I don't know what happened to my other topic on this. I can't find it now.

Prior to today I had 10 game that I couldn't update and would say either Corrupted Download or Content Server Unreachable. Today 1 more game has that issue. Yet 3 other games successfully updated.

After the latest Steam client update on July 30, when updating games, the message “download files are corrupted” appears. Perhaps the latest update has nothing to do with it, but I have never had problems downloading games before. But the game “Counter-Strike 2” has already updated twice without problems since then. I have Windows 7, and I know that some people with Windows 10 have the same problem.

Valve has changed the compression they use for downloads, which breaks them for Windows 7 as it can't handle the new format. This isn't a retrospective change so any games that haven't had an update since the change work fine, anything updated after the change won't.

If I wrote that this game was able to update after this problem appeared, then it works as usual.
Only certain games have been effected so far. Saying that game X works has no bearing on game Y having issues. That leaves the question of what determines if a game will be effected.
Have you tried a steam config flush?

That's right.

claimed that all games that are updated after June 30 should not work. But he is wrong.

How long ago did you install the Steam client, in what year? I installed it several years ago. There is an assumption that if you reinstall the Steam client, this problem will disappear. But perhaps other problems will appear then. I have not yet decided to do this. If you decide to do this, please write about the results so that other people know whether it is worth doing.

The problem is widespread and mostly affects Windows 7 users. I doubt that the Steam client settings are causing this problem. I've already tried a lot of things, but nothing helps. And what do you mean by resetting Steam configurations?

Given your complete lack of info about your system you've left everybody guessing as to what may help you resolve your issue. But quite frankly you wanting to pretend that Steam ending support for Windows 7 means it's not going to cause problems when they update the client/how things are handled behind the scenes isn't going to make something untrue, however much you wish it was the case.

Where did I write that the end of support for Windows 7 does not affect anything? And why do you need detailed information about my system here now?

I wrote in the first message that I have Windows 7. And in the last message I wrote that perhaps all the problems are due to the old Steam client, even despite its regular updates. All this is important, and there is no need for details now, since the problem is widespread and appeared recently. And the author of the topic has exactly the same problem, although it is possible that he has Windows 10, since some people have similar problems on this OS.

You read one thing, but see another. I write about Windows 7 and the old Steam client, and you say that I do not see a connection between this and download errors.

You answer exactly the same as a Valve employee (details below). But there are facts. Some games are updated, and some are not. He, like you, says that now all games that are updated will not work.

But a similar problem has apparently appeared a long time ago, in May in the topic of one game there are answers from a Valve employee, messages number 25 and 28.

If the creators of the Steam client want, they can solve this problem. New ZSTD file compression, not new for a long time, it can work on Windows 7. It's all about Valve's desire to make a working Steam client for this OS. The company's employees have all the data, as they regularly collect information about users' systems. But if something else is needed to solve this problem, then at the request of Valve employees, Steam client users can provide some additional information.

I can't change the OS because I don't have the opportunity to buy a new computer in the near future. But I have been buying games regularly for a long time and playing them, and now I can’t do that.

What determines it is how recent the game has had an update. If the game had their last update prior to the compression change, it will work as it still uses the old compression. If the game was updated after, it'll fail as it uses the new compression.

You see what he wrote. And I wrote about it too.
Other games updated without errors after the games that couldn't update due to the error.

And I'm saying that's wrong. I tend to open Steam on each Saturday just for updates to run. One week it will flush through all the updates. Next week, out of 5 updates, 2 will get stuck, and 3 will succeed. Next week out of 7 updates, 3 will get stuck, and 4 will succeed.

This means that the most recently they updated is within the past week. Since this problem has been going on for several weeks along side other recent updates succeeding the update being recent isn't the determining factor.

I seem to be experiencing this too. Seems completely random what does and does not work.

Saying the compression changed has no baring as I have updated games with patches after June 30 without issue.

Several of my game downloads and patches also download partially before giving a file corruption message.

This feels more like steam server issue and a whole slew of master files got corrupted and synced with all the other server corrupting them than a user client issue as when I check the game's forums I see users complaining about the same problem updating. There's far too many people complaining about this to be an OODOS or OODC issue.

June 30th is only a week ago. I started to see the Corrupted Download message in May.
