Question about refunding a literally unplayable game.
So I have a game I bought a while back and played for around 11 hours. Wanted to give it some more time for updates and such so put it down and have come back to it only to find that it has been quietly abandoned and the game left in a literally unplayable state as the games server for the multiplayer mode fails to load and thus fails to load the game as a whole even though the bulk of the game was singleplayer.

The game has apparently been dead for a couple months now with no announcement, and is STILL on sale in the store in this state. I've tried to get a refund but was denied with the default response of having played for too long, but I feel this is a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ situation. Is there anything else I can do about it or am I just out of luck?

The refund option from the purchase page is somewhat automated and will automatically deny you if you are over 2 hours played or past the 14 days of ownership.

Go back to your purchase and instead of selecting the refund option, choose "I have a question about this purchase".

Kindly and humbly explain the problem you have with the game and state you would like an exception to the refund rules.

Exceptions can be provided on a case-by-case basis. It is NOT a guarantee that you will obtain a refund, but this will allow you to get your refund request in front of a Support rep to consider your case.

Good luck!
You already said you played it for 11 hours. It's outside of the refund window by that admission alone.

doesn't matter. if a game gets updated to be literally unplayable (there was a case of this recently of a dev literally pulling all the files from the depot so the game doesn't download), steam by law and by their own policies has to refund it.

Link to said law and policies?

The last time that happened, Steam rolled back the depot to a playable state and I believe banned the dev. No refunds were issued. Could you please cite these laws and policy you speak of?
