Harddrive disappears when using steam(in connection with patching a game)
My hard drive was no longer recognised by the system in the middle of playing a game. I then removed and reinserted it and it was recognised again.
I was playing Green Hell and patching Ark Survival Evolved with the Fjordur expansion when it happened. I then removed the hard drive(990 Pro 4 TB) again and this time reinserted it in a different slot, and after Steam had been running for 2 minutes, the same error came up again, namely that the hard drive is not recognised, and when I try to restart Steam, the following error message appears: ‘The application could not be started correctly (0xc0000006), click “ok” to close the application.’
I also tested the hard drive with CheckdiskInfo, but CDI says it is ok 99%.
I'm writing here because I still have access to the hard drive, but Steam doesn't want to anymore. It may sound strange, but can the problem be related to the additional ARK content I was about to install? Because I never had this problem before but it started with the patch.

Probably a faulty hard drive. Download a hard drive tester. :steamhappy:

checkdiskInfo says, the hard drive is ok

Samsung 990 PRO 4tb right? if yes that not a Hard Drive, it's Solid State Drive, or SSD for short, because no moving parts.

Now get Samsung Magician Software, check drive health tell me the %, and if there any warnings, or errors should post about it here.

Have you make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date incase of micro code issues?

Lastly when you're putting it in, did make sure it fully seated, and put in correct screw to help hold it in place?

The worse case can be defective drive you have to RMA / Return Merchandise Authorization that means using your warranty to get a replacement.

The PC is running again. I suddenly had problems with a missing network adapter, internet was gone. ChatGTP helped me out, and after i installed the new network adapter, all was well again, until now.
Fingerscrossing, never touch a running system:D
