Steam recording save file question
I created a desktop folder to easily funnel captured footage as I record and save it. However, I don't know what exactly Steam is saving in the folder. It contains enough data to make me believe that video footage is in the folder, but when I dig into the files I'm met with folders labeled something like "FG_XXXXX_XXXXXXX_XXXXXX" and inside of those folders are chunk-stream.m4s files, which I cannot open.

All of the data is there, but nothing playable. I have to, instead, export the videos from Steam into a separate folder, which are playable files.

My question is, why is Steam dumping all of that video data into my desktop folder if I have to export from Steam after the fact just to access and edit the footage? Seems like I'm missing something because this will just eat up storage space without constantly having to purge the the recording folder.
