Desktop shortcuts don't work
When I add a shortcut of a game to my desktop, the shortcut appears as a blank icon and with a .url extension (e.g., "Fallout Shelter.url"). And when I click it, it doesn't work.

Insure you have selected the game launcher.exe and not something else.
It is a free to play game
