Friend Gifted A Game, It's Not Appearing
A friend gifted me a game and I got an email stating that I received a gift. However, the Steam app and my profile do not show a notification that I got the game. The link opens up into the Steam website but when I try to transfer it to the app, it doesn't go through. Will I have to redownload Steam for it to work or am I SOL?

I keep getting AppID 0: "Connection Timed Out"

Try opening the link in your email through steam, either by pasting it in a chat and clicking on it there, or opening any page in the steam client using external browser (middle mouse button on anything within the steamclient) and then putting the link in a new tab.
you could also login to the steam website in your browser and then opening the link
