Multiplayer games frequently disconnecting with good internet connection
Hello all, my partner and I are on the same router with upload around 350mb/sec and upload speed around 90mb/s.

Without fail no matter which of us is hosting, the “guest” is routinely kicked off of our Steam connection roughly every fifteen minutes and it’s extremely frustrating. We have very high speed internet and pay over a hundred dollars a month specifically so we can play games together, and we are connected to the internet and able to look things up, download from Steam, and participate in good quality Discord calls with no issues EXCEPT our hosting server shuts down.

This happens regardless of what game we are playing- FarCry 5, Abiotic Factor, Stardew Valley, Project Zomboid, KeyWe. It ONLY happens when we are playing together, I can maintain a connection to other multiplayer games perfectly fine (eg. The Isle, a demanding game).

He always plays on his PC, this happens whether I’m on my PC and hosting, or whether he’s hosting and I’m on my PC or on my Steam Deck. We try LAN connection, IP connection, directly inviting through Steam Friends, nothing is working- we have to assume the problem is with Steam.

Does anyone have any ideas? We’ve verified our game files for each game we’ve tried playing together, but the problem arises when one of us is hosting a server for the other on the same WiFi.
