Many Game Desktop Icons turned to globe icons that weren't that way before.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Steam. Suddenly half my icons are globes. Looked up many internet tutorials that did not help me.

Since you got rid of the proprietary graphics for the game desktop links when you uninstalled, the icons reverted to the Windows default.

Try launching from one of the icons and see if it automatically updates to the Steam asset.

Stop use old windows desktop icon's, this will happend again then you wipe steam and reset OS

Start learn to use collection and home library in the client, if already not done so,.

I use only windows desktop icons then game has a script extender. ( modded game )

ps.
then pc user dont use backup and know what they are doing, this will happend you cant fix it, a hard drive burnout when that happend you will experience all this again, unless you use clients own Solution.

And when is it steam issue what windows desktop icon is outdate and large Icon is not made to many old games.

And ppl with 100 of games cant have them at desltop, so its a pointless issue pc user try to fix.

Then get rid of them and make new ones again. It's really easy: you just right-click the game in your library, and make a new icon through the context menu. You can even create an additional game category that contains all of the games for which you want to have desktop shortcuts, which will make tracking easy, and will allow you to make icons for the entire set by highlighting the whole collection.

Personally I don't use icons at all, because using the library search feature to find the game I want feels just as quick.

Yeah and I tried that too. Didn’t work. I literally deleted the icos from the steam files and reinstalled the games to create new fresh icons. Still no change.

Have your tried deleting Windows icon cache?
  1. Open Windows File Explorer and in the "View" tab enable "File name extensions" and "Hidden items."
  2. Find and delete the file IconCache.db which is located at:
    C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Local\
  3. Restart Windows

Yes I have tried that and it didn’t work.

One thing I did recently notice is that it’s only when the icons are set to medium or large where this is a problem. If they’re set to small, they return as normal.

Ok I found a decent enough solution.

If I take the ico files from the folder they are created in by Steam, put them somewhere else, and THEN change the icon in shortcut properties to that file now placed somewhere else, then it works and changes them to what they’re meant to be.

I would prefer if it just worked normally by default, but I’ll take what I can get.

Actually, it might not be a steam issue at all because games from other launchers are doing this too

OP you make no sense, because its a URL and we know how things is made by windows and how steam has done it. ( other locations mean URL has been tamper with.

URL mean Uniform Resource Locator, a fixed spot for resources.

ps.
Still a waste of time, then you dont get the we other have drop that old windows way then we have more games that simple is not enough room for them, even make a folder and move them all there still look ugly with old windows, steam collection and home lib is much better.

And we dont talk about none steam game herel as you do, as fare as i know they all use cover box look today. in there own client.

And whats the point in explan this to you how windows is view them, then next steam user to tomorrow make same mistake as you do, and cant get it to work, and have doing all the wrong things on the topic, you can find several old post with it, its all there, and is a USER Problem and they dont seem to know how windows handle .ico file.

This is why you should stop use windows shortcut URL unless you have to. ( old box games did that. ) NO Client in the past.
