STEAM ACCOUNT THEFT - ROBO DE CUENTA DE STEAM
A friend asked me to open this post on the forums.
The other day I woke up and my passwords had appeared in a list on the deep web. All my accounts had been stolen. I managed to recover everything except Steam. They´re asking me for the key I used to open the account in 2008! I don´t have that information and support closes my tickets and offers no help.
Desperate, I reported to the police and they told me to contact the legal departament. I have a bunch of Humble Bundle keys, three PayPal invoices and physical game keys, but nothing is enough. I need help please. Thank´s.

Gracias.

Just explain to them that you don't have the key anymore due to how many years ago it was. Then ask if there is anything else you can send them instead as proof of ownership.

Don't tell them what you can send, let them suggest an alternative.
I managed to recover my account! I was very worried, so I asked my friend to open the post.
I would have loved to hear that conversation with the police.

They told me that there was no investigation going on, but that if the complaint helped me recover the account, they would process it without any problem.

How would the police be able to prove the accounts yours?

The police in Spain are obliged to assist you, it is a public service, very few people file false complaints, it is a serious crime

That's what they told me, that they weren't going to investigate it, but they processed the complaint to help me recover my account.

They were lying to you, or you misunderstood, How is it going to help recover the account, they dont even know its yours...
At the police station, when you sign the report you also sign that if you are lying you face a serious crime.

So?
Perhaps begin by considering how your credentials leaked.
Someone ... most likely you ... left the door wide open ...
My Gmail password appeared in a list on the Deep Web. I woke up to find my email had been accessed and all my accounts stolen. It was a nightmare. I enabled 2FA on everything and formatted my computer in case I had any kind of malware.

I think the translator is not doing his job well. When you go to a police station in Spain to report a crime, in the report you also sign that the fact you have reported is true. If it turns out not to be true, it is a serious crime and you could end up in a trial for false accusation.

So it was you.
