My account is hacked
I was able to get in using the authenticator, but this is about all I can do. For whatever reason, STEAM keeps saying that I'm having trouble with a 'captcha', and locks up... so not only do I have a hacked account, but STEAM apparently doesn't do any sort of 'support'. I've removed my debit card, so at least that part is done, but how do I fix my account back to the way it was before?!? I'm really starting to hate Steam now... A hacker jumps in, claims to be me, and without a lick of proof, they steal my account, but I have to jump through hoops, just to try to recover it, and I have all of the proof!!!!

You need to secure your account right now. Follow ALL of the steps:

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://steamhost.cn/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://steamhost.cn/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)
Why does Steam feel a need to scrap a message in progress, while trying to 'open in a new tab'?

Let me try again, I've already attempted Steam Support... it's not working, and if I try to copy/paste the messages/errors it gives me, then I'll lose this post again...

I only just set up the authenticator last night, and this is a new laptop, (about a week old).

Every time I try to send a message via the 'support' link, it comes back with an error about a 'captcha'.... there is no 'captcha' on their page.

Every positive change I make, is ended when I can't seem to 'confirm' anything... and that's not my fault, it's steam's mistake for allowing some two-bit scammer to hack my account, but when I show up with PROOF of who I am, the transactions, payment info, personal details... That isn't good enough for them.

Posting this now, before I lose it mid-post.

I want to thank everyone for their attempts to help me, and I'll try to do the Malwarebytes thing, against my better judgment ( I haven't had a lot of success with that program in the past).

Any chance you have adblock set to block captcha? That would sure make it never appear. I'm not sure if you are talking about something in a web browser or not.

Not that it's fair, but more as a heads up, steam regards us users as 100% responsible for "keeping our account secure" which means that they will blame you if you get hacked. So it's your fault so to speak.Yeah, not fair.

The only way the steam subscriber agreement would make it their fault, is if you could prove how the hack was specifically steam's fault - if it's not steam's fault specifically, then it's your fault. The hacker is never at fault. I know, kinda crazy, but that's the policy that you and I agreed to when we created our steam accounts.

The big thing is that while you aren't sure if your account is secure, do not use any VAC secured game servers (like playing on counterstrike). If you are hacked or have maleware in your system and VAC concludes it, then you get VAC ban on your account, which is a very unforgiving policy and will remain even after you fix the maleware and hacker problems.

No STEAM account has EVER been "hacked". Ever.

Only hijacked through social engineering. Why spend the time and trouble to "hack" an account when there are many people that willingly give out their account information for greed. We see it every single day and there is always another user that thinks they know it all but actually have zero clue and end up giving out all their account credentials to the hijacker.

I know, but users frequently call it "hacking" often enough where you knew what I meant and what the OP meant, so it just distracts from the topic if I insist on them changing terms.

Oh, at some point, set your profile to private.

Also if on discord, make sure your discord isn't set to inform other users what game you are playing or inform people what your steam account name is.

I don't agree. Words have definitions, meaning. Calling Steam accounts being stolen as "hacking" is blatantly incorrect.

By using this incorrect term for what is going on is perpetuating dis-information of the subject.
