Am I going to be stuck in refund limbo?
I pre-ordered the Standard Edition of Metal Gear Solid Delta on July 3.
I just realized the Deluxe Edition includes 2 days of early access (August 26 instead of 28). There’s no way to upgrade, so I had to buy the entire Deluxe Edition at full price.

I requested a refund for the Standard Edition, then bought the Deluxe Edition. Steam warned me I wouldn’t receive an extra copy, which is fine.

Now I’m confused:

I haven’t received the refund yet and probably won’t before August 28.

Steam says I own the Deluxe DLC, but the release date still shows August 28, not 26.

If the refund is approved, will I lose access to the game? (It shows I bought it twice, so I think I should keep the Deluxe version.)

Will Steam actually give me early access?

Steam seems to treat my Deluxe Edition as the same as the Standard Edition. I bought the Standard Edition on July 3 and requested a refund for it, but when I select the Deluxe Edition I bought today, it shows a refund pending for that as well.

I think I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥ now. If there's anyone who knows what is likely to happen, I would really like your help! Thanks a lot!

UPDATE: On the purchase history, if I tap on the Deluxe Edition I bought today, it says the game has been REFUNDED. But I asked for a refund for the Standard Edition I bought on the 3rd of July. I don't understand what is going on. The game is still in my library, but I can't play it since it hasn' been released yet. I am utterly confused!

Explain the issue very carefully.

Next time, wait for the first refund to be approved before you make the Deluxe Edition purchase otherwise this happens.

So follow along...

You bought the Standard Edition (SE). SE comes with "Game".

You wanted to be part of the advanced access and play it early. You submit a refund for the SE and bought the Deluxe Edition (DE).

DE is really just a package, not a whole different product. DE comes with "Game" plus DLC plus skin plus 48-hour early access.

But your refund for the SE, which contains "Game" is still pending approval. Steam warned you that you wouldn't get another copy of "Game" when you bought the DE. That should have been the red flag for you to stop.

At this point you own a license from the SE purchase for "Game". You also own licenses for DLC plus skin plus 48-hour early access from the DE purchase.

Now when the refund for the SE is approved, it's going to remove those portions of the game that came with the SE purchase, which is "Game".

So you still own the "DE" but just the extra bits. Steam didn't give you the DE copy of the "Game" because you already owned it. Now you're stuck with DE bits that you can't use because you no longer own the "Game".

If you haven't played the DE yet, ask for a refund for it as well and then don't buy anything until it is approved. Then rebuy the DE.

Brother, thanks very much. I will do this right now and get a second refund, and after that I will buy the game again. What a mess! Thanks a lot brother.
